Great expectations for finals of National Softball Tournament

dnosportsPresident of the Dominica Softball Cricket Development Association, Heston Charles, has promised that the final match of the National Softball Tournament, between the DASPA Sports Club and the Conals Sports Club, to be held on Sunday, July 3, will be one to remember.

Having outperformed four (4) other teams, the finalists will compete for a grand prize of $2,000, at the Brooklyn playing field, in Soufriere.

In an interview with Dominica News Online, on Monday, Charles revealed the goal of the competition.

“The goal of the competition is to develop cricket, to create an avenue for our young boys and young girls to gravitate to the sport, where they can learn the game, and understand the principles of cricket,” he explained. “And that is because the laws of cricket are what we use to govern the softball competition.”

He highlighted that the game is very similar to cricket, aside from minor differences.

“It’s the same principles, it’s just that we have a different ball, and we don’t use pads,” he said.

The losing team will receive a consolation prize of $1,000.

The match is expected to begin at 1:00pm, and will be followed by a prize-giving ceremony at 5:00 pm.
