Harlem United wins premiere division title

Harlem United

The Newton-based team Harlem United has been crowned champions of the LIME DFA Premiere Division Football champions for 2011/2012.

In a match, which was played at the Geneva playing field in Grand Bay on Sunday February 26, 2012, Harlem entered the game needing only a draw to be crowned champions while another former champion, Caribbean Cool Bath Estate, needed to win by two clear goals to take home the coveted title.

With the likes of prolific goal scorer and captain Kurlson Benjamin and Julian Wade in their lineup, Bath Estate knew they had a tough job to face the strong defense of Harlem led by captain and national player Prince Austrie.

Both teams threw away many chances but it was Bath Estate who took the lead in the 30th minutes from its overseas player Julian Wade who capitalized on a Harlem defense error to squeeze one pass Presely Boyd in goal to give Bath Estate the lead.

And to compound the matter, Harlem was reduced to ten men late in the first half when Prince Austrie received a second bookable offense and was shown the red card by the referee.

Into the second half with a goal down and one man short, Harlem came out as a team on a mission and after many unsuccessful raids, Kerry Alleyne made no mistake in the 75th minute to get the equalizer and send the fans into jubilation.

Bath Estate got many other chances but failed to make use of it and at the end of the final whistle the score was Harlem 1, Bath Estate 1, giving Harlem the championship title.
