ROSEAU, Dominica, Mar 16, CMC – National middle order batsman Martin Matthew produced a captain’s knock to propel Desiderata Tremors into the semi-finals of the Dominica Cricket Association Waddy Astaphans Twenty20 competition.
Playing at the Botanic Gardens on Sunday, Matthew stroked 41 as Tremors reached 89 for one off 8.3 overs in response to 86 made by Gallion United. Windward Islands opening batsman, Tyron Theophille, aided the cause with an unbeaten 30.
Earlier, Gallion United batted first and reached 86 all out off 19.3 overs with former youth team player Ken Mitchel hitting a top score of 40.
Former Windward Island middle order batsman Kirsten Casimir and Kurt Martin with three for three and three for 13 respectively were the chief wicket-takers for Tremors.
In another quarter-final encounter, veteran batsman Roy Marshall stroked a fine half-century but in vain as his Somerset team lost to Dublanc United by six wickets.
Marshall cracked 65 as Somerset reached 124 for six in their allotted 20 overs batting first. Marshall was ably supported by Mello Eusebe who contributed 21.
For Dublanc, Windward Islands spinner Shane Shillingford took two for 28 from four overs and Fitz Frederick claimed two for four.
Set a victory target of 125, Dublanc recovered from 62 for four to reach 128 without further loss off 16.5 overs.
Royston Fergus led the way with an unbeaten 51 while Ray Casimir and Fitz Frederick stroked 20 and 15 runs respectively.
