St John’s, ANTIGUA – The selection panel of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has named Jason Mohammed to replace Darren Bravo to join the squad for the upcoming one-day-international Tri-Nation series with Sri Lanka and hosts Zimbabwe.
The 30-year old, right-handed batting allrounder, recently captained West Indies A Team in the 3-0 series win over Sri Lanka A in Sri Lanka. He was captain and one of the leading batsmen in the three-match series with scores of 105 not out, 58 and 14.
Bravo has been replaced due to inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour, which is contrary to his contractual obligations to the WICB.
The clause in his agreement clearly states (in clause 4.7.2.2 of your match/tour contract) not to make any statement in or to any form of media (which shall include, without limitation, print media, television, radio, internet or any social networking media), or any other public statement, which would bring yourself, WICB or any official or authorised representative of WICB or the game of cricket into disrepute and your agreement to use all such media in a responsible manner.
Leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo has been named to replace off-spinner Sunil Narine who has withdrawn from the squad for personal reasons.
Bishoo was the leading bowler for West Indies in the recent Test Series against Pakistan in United Arab Emirates – where he took 18 wickets in the three matches. The 31-year-old has so far played 13 ODIs, with 20 wickets (average 23.8; economy rate 4.28).

I cannot say I am surprised at with Bravo’s behavior. It was anticipated, since the problem started with his older brother. According to a tweet reported on many sports network, Darren was dissatisfied with his C level contract and called the President of the WICB, a big idiot. He was asked to apologize and also remove the tweet by Saturday, he refused, as a result, he was axed from the team presently in Zimbadwe. Had Bravo not been a rich man, I wonder whether he would have behaved inappropriately. I wonder what would have been his reactions, if the President or any West Indies selector had referred to him as a big idiot or because of his failures over the past two years, as a lousy batter. I hope he does not apologize, which would bring an end to the group of West Indies cricket millionaires who believe without them West Indies cricket will not survive. We have a bunch of young talented players who appear to be interested in cricket and have won without them.
