The Dominica National Women’s Football Team left the island on Monday for St. Kitts to take part in the 2018 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Challenge Series.
In the lineup are five foreign-based players who will be part of the team which kicks off its first game against host country St. Kitts on April 18, 2018.
Among the five foreign-based players are Dominica Football Association Female Footballer of the Year Romelcia Phillip who is a freshman at Louisiana State University, Alexandria. The others are Britney Stoute, Kylee Bertrand, Kira Bertrand and Sari Finn.
They will be joined by 15 locally-based players in the squad of 20 which will be under the guidance of head coach Rajesh Joseph Latchoo.
Dominica’s team will be led by experienced defender Roselia Registe and includes seasoned campaigners Christina Sobers and Keanna Francis.
The team also has a youthful blend with the 16-year-old US based player Sari Finn and 17-year-old Naisha Joseph as the youngest persons in the lineup.
The girls from the Nature Island will face host country St. Kitts from 7:30 pm on April 18 in the second match of a doubleheader.
Two days later, they will face St. Lucia with their third and final game against St. Vincent on April 22, 2018, at the Warner Park Sports Complex.

Speaking before the team departed Coach Latchoo is confident that the team will give a good account of itself.
“The players are not where I would have liked them to be…but I believe that they have done well during the training sessions that we have had. If they stick to the game plan, the team can be a troublesome one,” Lotchoo said.

I want to applaud the young ladies of Dominica for taking on these daunting task in the face of so much adversity. We just went through this horrible hurricane and yet we do not even have sporting facilities that seem worthy of walking on much less for playing on, but still you all are persevering and willing to compete at that level.

I remember the days when we used to play 4 games of small goal football in Windsor park , and there was still space for full court basketball, and netball on the other side. What has happened to my Dominica? I mean after so long we should be better off now.
then there was Carnival city at the back of the windsor park which was a whole separate playing field in itself. Mamo understood that although we needed to work after hurricane david. the people NEEEDED a healthy way to let off the stress and that is why she encouraged sports and sporting activities. Today, after a major catastrophe like Marie we decide against sports and house containers and debris on our playing fields. shame.

That field and sporting facility looks state of the art. top notch. Boy my hat is off to our local sports people. Because even with the worst playing fields, world sports facilities, worst equipment, we still continue to do a good job in performance. Makes you wonder how much better we could do if people like the Ministry of SPorts and Education took sports and sports education seriously for once, what we could really accomplish. ITs like we insist of keeping the same standards forever. Like we do not ever deserve proper things.
