The Final of the 2015 Secondary Schools U-20 Basketball Championship, which was organized by the Sports Division, took place on Friday April 17th at the Dominica Grammar School’s Hard Court.
The North East Comprehensive School (NECS), which made it to the Final for the first time, managed to dethrone the Dominica State College (DSC) – the defending champions.
The match was very competitive with the lead being constantly being exchanged between the schools; however, it was the NECS boys who had the greater zeal to win and at the final whistle, the score was 69-62 in favour of the NECS.
For the NECS
·Ethan Boland had an MVP performance with 29 points, 23 rebounds,8 blocks, 4 assists, & 3 assists.
He was also assisted by Desmond Boney who had 9 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals and Tamir Lawrence with 9 points and 9 rebounds
In a losing effort for the DSC
·Edmund Williams had 24 points, 13 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists & 2 blocks
·Joshua Henderson – 20 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals & 3 assists
·John James – 10 points, 11 rebounds & 3 steals
The Sports Division congratulates the North East Comprehensive School on winning the 2015 U-20 Boys Basketball Championship.
Meanwhile the 1st semi-final of Girls segment will take place on Monday, April 20th at Benjamin’s Park between the Dominica State College and the Portsmouth Secondary School.
The other semi-final is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22nd at the hard court of the Dominica Grammar School between the Castle Bruce Secondary School and the Dominica Grammar School.
The Finals of the Sports Division’s Secondary Schools U-20 Girls Basketball Championship is expected to take place at the Dominica Grammar School on Thursday, April 23rd.
All matches take place at 3:45 pm.
