Opening of Secondary Schools Netball Championship slated for Wednesday

dno sportsThe Sports Division in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports will commence its annual Secondary Schools Netball Championships on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Dominica Grammar School from 3:00 p.m.

Marking the opening will be a Ball-O-Rama which will feature the Netball champion houses of participating Secondary Schools.

On parade will be St. Joan’s House from the Convent High School, Skinner House of the Dominica Grammar School, Jerome Romain House of the Portsmouth Secondary School, Georgina House of the St. Martin’s Secondary School, Barrette House of the Wesley High School, Cedar House of the Pierre Charles Secondary School, Red House of St. John’s Academy, Blue Jays House of the North East Comprehensive School and the champion houses of the Castle Bruce Secondary School and the Goodwill Secondary School.

The teams will be addressed by Sports Officer responsible for netball -Miss Alice Jno. Jules, Mayor of Roseau – Mrs. Irene John, Sports Coordinator – Mr. Trevor Shillingford and the Minister for Culture, Youth and Sports – Hon. Justina Charles.

Last year – Rebecca Peter House of the Portsmouth Secondary School won the ball-o-rama competition; Convent High School won both the U-14 and U-20 categories whilst the Dominica Grammar School won the U-16 category.

Twelve schools have registered to participate in this year’s U-16 and U-20 leagues.
