Former president of the Dominica Football Association, Patrick John, has dropped his appeal against a two-year FIFA ban in an alleged bribery case involving Mohamed bin Hammam, the Associated Press is reporting.
This prompted the Swiss-based Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to cancel a hearing into the matter which was scheduled for today ( Monday, January 21).
On November 17, 2011, FIFA Ethics Committee imposed a two-year ban and fined John 3,000 Swiss francs (then $3,300) after finding him guilty of violating FIFA’s Code of Ethics that addresses general rules including Article 8 that deals with protection of personal rights and Article 9 that relates to loyalty and confidentiality.
That decision was later upheld by the FIFA Appeals Committee.
The international governing body of football had initially charged John for accepting US$40,000 in cash from Bin Hammam to support him in an election campaign against FIFA President Sepp Blatter.
Bin Hammam was on a campaign visit to Trinidad in May 2011 when the bribery allegedly took place.
But after a hearing on the matter FIFA disclosed that John did not violate its code of ethics that relates to accepting the alleged bribery of $40,000; it however found him guilty of infringement of FIFA statutes.
Efforts by DNO to contact John for an interview on Monday were unsuccessful.
we all love you colonel John our first prime minister….they hate you but you love the poor…allu cana keep a great man down. When PJ dies all of allu will have all kinds of sweet things to say about him.
Pj has made mistakes and he has acknowledged them and he has also made an invaluable contribution to Da development in Politics Sports Culture etc.
LONG LIVE PJ we still need you in our football we cannot wait for the next elections and also AGM they say on mat in the morning thats its about 10 years since harlem have had an agm>>>>>>>??????
Is Mr. John conceding? It is interesting that the people who got the worst punishment in this FIFA scandal are Ben Hammin, Jack warner and PJ. I shudder to think if it was PM Skerrit who was found guilty what the local press would have said or done. It is noteworthy that PJ is looked up as a champion by those who champion the cause of good governance, transparency etc. Politics boy make strange bedfellows.
Hope they Drop his name from the calipso house. “PJ” take a break and a long hard look at what could have been. you still have a right to exist but choose your next move correctly, but stop being a nausiense.
The man with all the catgut…Mr John!
it seems that he finally has some good sense
Patrick John should have been banned from all public positions. He is truly the epitome of a Dominican Citizen.
I found that he took too much time. I hope that he will bow and end all his involvement in the sport.
by the wayisn t that jack warner guy some minister or some thing in tand t?
Why should he end all involvement? Leave the man alone! Its amazing how black people hate one another.
What has that got to do with a man’s skin colour? A bad egg is a bad egg, regardless.
Yea man john bigup
