The Portsmouth Breakers can no longer be referred to as “up and coming youngsters.”

Indeed, the team has come a long way amd matured right before the eyes of the scores in attendance at the LIME Sports complex last evening as they dethroned the defending champs to claim the title of 2015 National Volleyball Champs.

After a dog fight with top contender, DBiz Young Vets in the semis, the Breakers set their sights on gold but faced an uphill battle against a well experienced two-time defending champs, LIME Wolf Pac. With last year’s spanking from this same opponents still in their minds, the Breaker’s took game one in front of their home crowd last Sunday with a score of 3-2.

Game two, in the best of three series, took place on Tuesday evening at LIME and it was another epic five-set nail biting thriller.

The Portsmouth natives took set one but the wolf Pac would not go down quietly. The game continued tit for tat as the two teams exchanged points and sets.

This made for exciting viewing by the dozens gathered to witness this grand finale.

The 5th set started with the Breakers jumping out 5-0 but the Wolves came back amd would eventually lead the game 14-13. Strong determination from the players and massive support from their cheerleaders gave the Breakers much needed confidence to pull off the win 16-14.

Final scores 25-22, 13-25, 25-18, 22-25 and 16-14.
