The Windward Islands Volcanoes will take on the Guyana Jaguars at the upcoming Regional 4-day Cricket Tournament to be held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium from March 20-23.

Matches begin from 10:00 am daily.

The Windward Islands Volcanoes team is made up of players from St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada and Dominica.

Captain of the Windward Islands Volcano, Liam Sebastien, told Dominica News Online (DNO) on Wednesday that although the team is going up against the champions Guyana, “we feel confident going into the game.”

“Based on the results we have been having in the past five games, we have been doing well,” he said. “Guyana has won the tournament already so we know it’s not going to be an easy test but we are prepared for the fight because we played them before. They beat us in Guyana so it is our opportunity now to beat them at home.”

He said the team is not going to rest because the game is going to be tough.

“We have a tough game coming up this weekend and if memory served me right, we have not won in Dominica in a very long while as a Windward Island Team so we are looking to change that,” Sebastien said.

He said the team is ready to battle it out.

“We will give our best, we are not in control of the results as to what will happen at the end of the game but we are going to try to make it in our favour,” he said. “As a Windward Island Team we have been down for too long and people criticizing us as a team, so what we try to do at the end of the day, we try to satisfy ourselves first by giving our best out on the field and hope that the results can come out.”

Coach of the Volcanoes, Ian Allen of St Vincent, said preparations has gone pretty well so far leading up to the matches.

“I think going into this game against Guyana, I think all the guys are confident, positive and just have to continue to believe in themselves and continue to perform,” he stated. “We are just trying to go in with a winning attitude and see how it goes from here.”

He revealed that the team arrived in Dominica on Tuesday with the first practice session on Wednesday, followed by a final practice session on Thursday, to fine tune for the games beginning on Friday.
