Sam Martin Pointe Michel strikes back

A week after suffering a humiliating loss of 5-2 on home turf to Newtown-based team Icons, Sam Martin Pointe Michel responded in kind by defeating another Newtown team, Harlem United, at the Poree Park in Pointe Michel in the only Premier Division game played over the weekend.

The final score, ironically, was 5-2.

All matches on Friday and Saturday were called off due to heavy rains associated with Tropical Storm Rafael but Pointe Michel fans, hungry for football, were not disappointed on Sunday.

After suffering recent defeats both Harlem United and Pointe Michel had a “point to prove.”

But it was Pointe Michel who tasted the first goal at the 13th minute through star striker Randolph Peltier after goal keeper, Presely Boyd, was caught out of his goal.

Harlem got the all important equalizer in the 29th minute through Mark McManus who used his “calm composure” to score after the Pointe Michel keeper Delbert Graham had foiled an earlier attempt at goal.

However, minutes later Harlem, withered under pressure from the home team and put Pointe Michel in the lead through a (Prince Austrie) own goal and to add more salt to the wounds, in the 44th minute Randolph Peltier took full advantage of an error from Prince Austrie and keeper Boyd to send Pointe Michel to a 3-1 lead  in the first half.

In a desperate attempt to get goals, Harlem made a few changes during the second half bringing in Addi John but that did not help as Pointe Michel piled on the pressure.

Danny Williams scored the fourth goal for the home team in the 62nd minute and three minutes later Peltier completed a well deserved hattrick against his former team to drive the final nail into the coffin of the defending champions.

Jeffery Durand pulled one back for Harlem in the 87th minute but that was much too little much too late to avert a  5-2 defeat by Sam Martin Pointe Michel.
