Sammy sends condolences to relatives of St Lucia accident victims

Kolkata, India —West Indies captain Darren Sammy offered condolences to the families and loved ones of those who died in the tragic accident in his native St Lucia last Thursday. Speaking on Sunday ahead of the second Test match against India, Sammy took time out before addressing cricket matters to pay his respects to those who lost their lives.

“I want to take time out on behalf of the team to send my condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of those persons who died in what was a horrific accident back home in St Lucia. The persons who died came from a community near to where I was born and grew up so I knew most of them very well. It is a sad time for me and the whole of St Lucia,” Sammy said.

“Being a positive person, I intend to use this as a motivation to go out there to play well. If there is one thing that could bring a smile in such times is to see a West Indies team win.”

Reports have indicated that as many as 19 persons, including children from the village of Dugard, lost their lives when the bus in which they were travelling went over a cliff and into the sea.

Sammy is the first and only St Lucian to play Test cricket for the West Indies.

A St. Lucian friend told me about the accident. How sorry I was to hear about it and that so many people died. This is a great loss for St. Lucia. One would have been too much. I pray that God had mercy on their souls and that they will rest in peace.
My heartfelt sympathy to their families in St. Lucia and others wherever they may reside. God be with you.

Well Sammy! Did you play, that the West Indies will win the cricket competition?

Anyhow, may the souls of the departed ones–your people of St. Lucia, remain in that subconscious sleep, which they have entered because of that tragedy.

I will never know them physically, but I hope that they are in line for the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

And so, we will meet in that Land beyond the River–better known as the Sweet Forever. We will be there together, and to listen to ring of the Golden Bell that God’s Angels will ring for them, us, you, and me! In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!
