Shillingford gets five plus one

Local lad Shane Shillingford achieved a double feat in the third and final Digicel Test when he grabbed his first five wicket haul in test cricket collecting 6 for 119 from 42.5 overs.

This after the tall off spinner became the first Dominican to play test cricket on home soil.

Australia, after resuming the morning on 212/7, was all out a few minutes before lunch for 328, but not before wicket keeper Matthew Wade became the first Australian to score a century for the series hitting his maiden test on 106.

The Aussies started the morning session with a clear purpose and mission, posting a 50 partnership between Wade and Starc for the 8th wicket in 60 minutes from 91 balls.

However, disaster struck when Wade drove elegantly towards long-off off and the front foot of fielder Brathwaite slid and pulled the ball back inches from the rope. Brathwaite then threw the ball to the keeper (Baugh) as Starc was ambling back to his crease without grounding the bat and Baugh quite nonchalantly took the bails off

Starc’s foot was actually in the air when the bail was dislodged. The third umpire was called and Starc was out.

Wade then posted his maiden half century in 152 minutes from 110 balls hitting 7 fours. He and Hilfenheus posted a 102 runs partnership for the 9th wicket and in the process Australia went past 300 runs.

But Wade, who had previously pulled Shillingford for two sixes, was on 106 and was attempting a third six when he was brilliantly caught at the boundary edge by Bravo.

Final scores, Australia 328 off 114.5 overs, Shane Shillingford 6 from 119 from 42.5 overs.

Am soooo proud great job shane BUT if you want to cement your place on the west indies side bro you got to score some runs, this WI team keep letting us down with the BAT……..Now the west indies cricket board must take the windward islands seriously…we need a batting coach…..I recommend Carl Hooper.

Not a herd follower, stop with all than hate. It’s a new day and time. Forget what’s behind look to the future. Who ever thought DA would host test cricket and further more that we are ever so proud that a Dominican making waves. On my job folks apologize because during the controversy of where the test should be played, we got blose like old clothes,Today our prayers are answered. WE ARE IMPORTANT. just. like all the others. GOD BLESS DA and BLESS the TEAM as we lift our heads again. Nothing last forever. The first shall be the last and the last shall be the first, I didn’t not say it, Jehovah did.

Whilst Shane is at it, please name the Media Center at the stadium “The Jeff Charles Media Center”. It’s about time that we show Jeff Charles appreciation for his tremendous contribution to Dominica and Winward Island cricket by way of great commentaries on and off the field, and player development, and his radio maestro.

just wish they had starthed the march on a weekend so that the REAL dominican crowd could have come out.

This is the first time inj a longtime they have deviated from the norm in not having a weekend as part of the test. Hope is not a conspiracy just to limit the imp[act of the dominican crowd, thus limiting dominica’s chance of other games.

This is beyond doubt Shane Shillingford’s day! But also a beautiful thing for Dominica.

That said, many others come in for praise on this most historic Dominican accomplishment.

See what we can do, if we stop the non-stop hate mongering, roll up our collective sleeves and do all we can for ourselves and for Dominica?
