The people of the South East must be grateful to sportsmen like Ron Green and Abraham Browne who for decades have been organising and mobilising the communities in different sports disciplines. Ron selflessly took football from scratch in LaPlaine and through his love for community, dedication and management skills, brought football in particular to a level where La Plaine was a team opponents highly respected. La Plaine produced national players like Hurtault and others. Ron played an active role in the development of basketball not only in his constituency but all over the country. Ron has shown his class as an avid champion athlete and certainly is among the best Minister of Education and Sports Dominica has ever witnessed. There is no comparing the involvement, abilities, knowledge and history of exemplary work done by Ron Green with that of the present Sports Minister. It is like CHALK and CHEESE.

Browne, on the other hand, is well known for his commitment over the years in organising of leagues, competitions, training and overall Sports development in Morne Jaune, Riviere Cyrique and Grand Fond. He has done the same working throughout Dominica as a respected Sports Officer in the Sports Division for decades. Browne is an avid cricketer and table tennis administrator. Browne’s work in the area of Sports Development, working with young people so that they could stay away from crime and violence, must be commended.

The staging of this South East District Sports Festival is as a result of the extraordinary work that those men have been doing all those years in their communities. Their work has energised the communities significantly and increased their awareness as regards the importance of participation in Sports.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IS ABOUT CREATING THE SPACE AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMUNITIES TO TAKE ACTIVE PART IN THEIR OWN DEVELOPMENT. IT IS NOT ABOUT HAND-OUTS OR WAITING ON OTHERS TO DO EVERYTHING FOR US. Ron and Browne Your light will always keep on shining.
