Shillingford was suspended by the ICC

Justina Charles, Minister for Culture, Youth and Sports has pledged support for West Indies senior cricketer Dominican Shane Shillingford.

Shillingford has been suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) from bowling in international cricket after his action was deemed to be illegal.

Charles has stated that Shillingford’s suspension is a blow for West Indies cricket as he has played an integral role in the resurgence of the West Indies team.

She said the Government of Dominica will do all it can to help Shillingford through this difficult period.

She described Shillingford as a resolute and determined individual who will return a better bowler and player following this ordeal and she wants Dominicans to pray for him and stand in solidarity with the hope that he will soon be back playing cricket at the international level.

She said Shillingford has made Dominicans proud and they in turn should give him the necessary support and encouragement.

Shane Shillingford has played fourteen test matches for the West Indies and has taken sixty-five wickets.

He is currently with the team on tour of New Zealand but is unable to play because of the suspension.

Shane my brother from another mother!!! Might I suggest that we bombard ICC with letters, calls, emails and pressure. I believe in Shane, I believe the young man is increasingly becoming a target by a group of wicked people, who can’t face defeat. GOD bless and protect you Shane. I vex until I can explode.

West Indians Shane has given not just Dominica but the entire community a reason to embrace cricket again, are you all going to allow these folks to devour him? frustrate him? break his will spirit, for doing what he has been naturally gifted to do? I’m fed up with this harassment of Shane!!

The fourth paragraph of the article reads:
“She said the government of Dominica will do all it can to help Shillingford through this difficult period”.

I have never heard such a vague statement. What can the govt. do? Honourable Charles, please give us some of the specifics that you plan to embark on along with a time-frame when Shane will be back on the West Indies team.

    I await your response, Madam.

I am totally LOST here! All these criticism and rebuttals are senseless. People are entitled to their opinions and have different perspectives. One does not have to assassinate the character of others if he or she disagrees. Can we rise above the instinctive response of fight or flight, be respectful and allow dissent without personal attacks?…On a more serious note, I have no idea what they are referring to when they say due to “Shane Shillingford’s action”. Did he do something wrong or are they referring to his bowling mechanics? what in heaven are we talking about? I hope I can get some clarification and see a cessation of the senseless personal attacks, the sarcasm and derogatory comments at or about each other. geez!!

Shane Shillingford’s action is nothing compared to that of Lasith Malinga and Muttiah Muralitharan.
Once again the big wigs of World Cricket via the ICC showing their determination to keep West Indies at the bottom of world cricket. The likes of Shane Shillingford emerging as a leading world-class spinner is a threat to them. WICBC need to show more muscle in defence of West Indian cricketers.

Lasith Malinga, Muttiah Muralitharan, Shoab Aktar, bret Lee and others, their country stood up for them, in the case of Muttiah Muralitharan, he could not correct his action so they claimed he had a birth defect he was allowed to continue to bowl and chuck his way to a world records. Lawson the Jamaican fast bowler never recoverd after he was reported for suspect action, that was after he had destroyed the Australian batting.

In the case of Lawson as in the case of Shillingford there is no committed effort on the part of the WICB or government of the region to support players when they are reoported. The response is always in support of the status quo. No questions asked, is this harassment? when one considers that other bowlers with suspect action are not reported or they are given pass. Simply put we do not have a voice, or only voice is to repeat and accept the findings of the ICC, our cricket experts in the region will take time to explain why the action of the bowlers are ilegal.

Unfortunately, I cannot see Shillingford resuming his career as an international Cricketer due to lack of proper support from the region.. I hope I am very wrong.

I am convinced that you politicaly affected sub-species have now run out of ideas on how to criticize the government. If she had said nothing at all she would have dug her own grave. Now that she has addressed this issue, some of you are saying that she does’nt have a clue about sports or she is only doing it for political reasons. Just can’t please you all.

Never Give UP Shane. Work hard to get it Right.Remember the most wicket taker in the world went through this to the extent that the ICC had to change the rules to accommodate his action.

Your criticism was unwarranted unnecessary and ill-spoken.Her word choice was not a Malaprop in anyway shape or form. She chose a simple term that served its purpose. I see you trying very hard to show off your limited vocabulary while simultaneously attempting to insult and belittle the minister. How very BIG of you.

Apparently, u the self professed English dictionary want to criticize the Minister. A blow to is a commonly used term. But just go back for a second and read what u wrote. Then maybe u will really have something to criticize.

Mr.SHILLING-FORD,what they are saying is sometimes you send a straight shooter instead of swinging the arm,its a minor problem that can easily be rectified with more practice and couching.your country is saying it is good enough for them.OK but if you want to compete against the best you must obey the rules.this is the downfall of Dominicans,no rules,no guidance or procedures.we are free so it left with others to point out the rules to you.get some practice, obey the rules, follow procedures and you are as good as any other

Well said if by our standard his action is accepted then clearly we set our standard too low and we need to elevate to the level of the icc. if he wants to continue playing rectify the problem put in the extra effort
