Marlon Dyer, a member of the Dominica Table Tennis Association (DTTA), and Melissa Alfred, a Sports Officer with the Sports Division, are off to Zhejiang, China on July 6th, 2015 for one month.
They will participate in a prestigious table tennis programme organized by the Training and Certification Center of the Department of Commerce of Zhejiang, China. The Centre is a professional, international training institution established in 1998 and defined as a “Training Base for Short-Term UNDP Expert-Aid Projects in China”.
Marlon and Melissa are among only 20 persons selected worldwide, from developing countries, to take part in this world-renowned programme. Their participation was made possible through the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Dominica and facilitated by the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the DTTA.
During the month of July, Dominica also returned to the regional stage with participation in the 57th Caribbean Seniors Table Tennis Championship in Martinique. Dominica received a special welcome as the country has been absent from regional table tennis tournaments for a number of years. Representing Dominica at the tournament are Larrysa Dover (Captain – Women’s Team), Alliyah Prince, Trice Dorsette, Carline Valmond, Joan Peters, Devon Prince (Captain – Men’s Team) Dane Taylor, Desmond Boney, Jaleel Lewis, Clifton Lewis (Player/Coach) and Marie-Antoinette Mora (Manager). The team will participate in several categories including Mixed Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Men’s Doubles, Masters’ (45+), Under-21 and Men’s & Women’s Singles. The team events took place on July 3rd and 4th.
These are two major accomplishments of the DTTA, given that the current Executive has been in existence for just one year. Dominica’s participation in these events would not have been possible without the kind assistance of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and the Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC). The DTTA also held Nationals last month, for the first time in a very long time.
Antoinette Mora seems like she knows how to pull the ropes. Those interested in TT should give her some help.
A fantastic opportunity! I hope that their experience & expertise improves vastly. Good luck fellow Dominicans. May God bless you all.
