Tarish United wins U-17 football championship

The champs celebrate victory

Tarish United has been crowned the U-17 champions of the Dominica Football Association (DFA) League which concluded on August 22, 2017 at the Windsor Park Stadium.

Under the leadership of coach, Delbert Hazel, Tarish United went unbeaten in the competition and defeated Ian Douglas Bombers of Portsmouth 4-1 in the finals.

Tarish ended the first half 1-0 with a goal in the 40th minute from Jomiah Timothy and on resumption of play in the 50th minute, Kiano Martin slammed a ball from about 50 yards out and caught the goalkeeper out of his goal to give his team a 2 nil lead.

More problems were to befall the Portsmouth team who was very defensive from the go when national youth goalkeeper Jerome Burkard, who came in as a second half substitute, misjudged a dive in an attempt to save a 75th-minute kick from Clemson Isaac making the score 3 nil.

It would have easily been 4 nil had it not been for the brilliance of Burkard who had some excellent diving saves and impressed all in his brief stint in goal. Many wondered why he was not selected as the first choice goalkeeper.

Portsmouth pulled one back in the 85th minute of play through Kyle Langlais but that was too little to late as Tarish drove the final nails in the coffin of Portsmouth with a blast from DeJante Joseph and not even the fleet and fast moving Burkard was able to stop this goal.

Tarish United were crowned champions and collected a check of EC$2,000.00, Portsmouth, second place and a check of EC$1,500.00 and South East third place and a check of EC$500.00

Dante Challenger of East Central was voted best goalkeeper; best defender Lyndon Joseph of Tarish United; best midfielder Corbin Paul of Portsmouth; best striker Limar Irish of Portsmouth, the tournament’s MVP was Jomiah Timothy; most disciplined team Club Loubiere.

Final scores of the match: Tarish United 4; Portsmouth Bombers 1.

Ian Douglas Bombers of Portsmouth came in second
South East emerged third in the tournament
