VIDEO: Dublanc residents celebrate Shane Shillingford’s West Indies debut

Shane Shillingford impressed with his performance during the A tour of Bangladesh

This video shows an impromptu jump-up in Dublanc on Wednesday, celebrating Shane Shillingford’s first appearance as a member of the West Indies cricket team.

The Dominican off-spinner is a new face in the West Indies squad for the first Test against South Africa that gets underway in Trinidad from June 10.

“Right now, I am really elated at the prospect of representing the West Indies team,” Shillingford said.

I remember when irving shilingford and grayson shillingford made west indies, how proud i was to be a dominican at that time. We should always celebrate achievements like that, and i hope the young man takes the bull by horns and run with it. It is not good enough to just make the team, even though that is an enormous feat, but for him to have a relentless and sustained career with the west indies cricket team, unlike irving or grayson that could cement him in the annals of the cricket elite.

I agree with you that you should not call yourself a Dominican because you are too freaking shallow!! You are embarrassed to call yourself a Dominican because other Dominicans are proud of the success of one of their own!! Why not just disappear!!

    GREAT………………BAD……………..REMEMBER.

ITS GREAT TO SEE A YOUNG DOMINICAN PROVE HIS WORTH ON THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE…I WAS SO PROUD..I HONESTLY ALMOST CRIED AND I CONSIDER MYSELF TO BE A HARD-A**.

ITS BAD, HOWEVER, IF THE WEST INDIES SELECTORS CONTINUE TO OVERLOOK PURE SMALL ISLAND TALENT FOR THE ‘WASTE-OF-TIMES’ OF THE BIGGER ISLANDS…..I GUESS WE WILL WATCH AND SEE.

SHANE..REMEMBER…NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE 70,000 PLUS LOYAL FANS WHO ARE BEHIND YOU 100%.

    DUDE……………FROM A STRAIGHT BROTHER TO A STRAIGHT BROTHER……WE LOVE YOU….KEEP IT UP.

I just have the feeling that Dominica has a key role to play in terms of a resurgence of the passion for West Indies Cricket. We have gotten our opportunity late and so the interest in on a definite high while it may be dwindling in the other Island.

I just hope that West Indies Cricket Board and other interest can see the opportunity therein.

Congratulations Shane, Congratulations Dominica (La Isla Bonita).

The community of Dublanc and by extension the island of Dominica have every reason to be celebrating. Not too often do we have a Dominican representing the West Indies and it seems every time that those who make it are from Dublanc, with the like of Irving Shillingford, Grayson Shillingford and Nobert Phillip. Now we have Shane. Boy you make us proud and Shane has already taken 2 of the first three South African Wickets.

I hope some day the sports authorities will name a stand in the Stadium after Shane. They did for Adam Sandford who made the West Indies but did not play for Dominica or Windward.

But we must also be proud of this small community of Dublanc that produce very good sporting personalities both nationally and regionally.
