WICB gives Gayle the option to retire

Gayle

The ongoing saga between Chris Gayle and The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has taken yet another turn as  the Board has now given Chris Gayle the option to retire from international cricket if he can’t commit himself fully to representing the regional team.

The board’s latest position comes against the background that the controversial opening batsman has requested an unconditional No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for global domestic Twenty20 tournaments.

WICB not easy you know. they are not selecting the man and yet they want to have him tied down. They simply trying to drown the man career. I really dont understand what is happening here. The govs of the west indies should crank up some unified preassure on the WICB because they are killing West Indies cricket.

West Indies Cricket Board needs to go to HELLLLL.They are the one who destroyed the W.I Cricket Team. They have not humiliated the players, but cause pain and embarassment to we the supporters. They have made bad choices and selection, thus making winning difficult.I am in agreement with Gayle every step of the way.I would wipe the BOARD clean…..useless people.

Don’t blame gayle for anything .West indies selectors is a bunch of you know what.Just check the countries they chooseing players from, only one set of countries alone .The caribbean consists of many different islands and all of them has some good cricketers. They only choose guys from trini, jamaica, guyana and mabye barbados.Let them take blows.

Like the WICB take a page out of the Politician’s Handbook!!! The WICB is the one to resign IMMEDIATELY, not Gayle. Those in leadership positions in our Caribbean still have the colonialist mentality: let it be known that previous boards banned the three W’s – Worrell, Weels and Walcot; the players who participated in the Kerry Parker series in the late eighties; now they are doing it to Gayle.

It was the West Indian spectators who DEMENDED that they were reinstated. If we care about our sporting future, we the SPECTATORS must call for Gayle’s IMMEDIATE reinstatement along with a TOTAL RESIGNATION OF THE BOARD failing which we BOYCOTT ALL future matches in the West Indies.

Moreover, the Boards have managed horrendously the cricketers funds. West Indies dominated world cricket for over 15 years and what have the former players obtained for their incomparable achievements on the field? Absolutely nothing but today those who have not accomplished anything on the playinf field now want to tell the players what to do and say. makes me laugh to see the tail wagging the dog~!!

Jump high jump low..West indies cricket is nothing without Chris Gayle. Cricket has gone to the Dogs, why ? because there is too much politics involve. why cant gayle express his opinion., every body does. where has democracy and freedom of speech gone to. presently chris Gayle is making millions in the IPL and BPL while westindies while WICB is struggling. Forgive , forget and move on..last bu not least. Why is sammy still in the Westindies team?

@President – Chris Gayle has been in the West Indies team for the past 10 years and is blows the Windies team was getting. So all of a sudden (based on some of y’all’s flawed logic), if he were to return to the West Indies team, the team would start beating everyone?

For those of us who actually follow cricket and not just listen to rumor mills of foolishness, Chris Gayle in international cricket has been nothing more than a hard-hitting inconsistent batsman who goes through regular cycles of a big score followed by a string of low scores. It is just a pity the consistency he displays in those show pony domestic leagues around the world never materialized significantly when he played for the West Indies in real cricket on the international stage.

Gayle got to go. it’s simple as that. He has no interest in W.I. cricket other than to make money and he is doing quite well well elsewhere. Gayle should retire.

    February 22, 2012

I am a lover of cricket and a BIG fan of Windies. However, while I wish Gayle would consider putting our cricket first and make himself available, I fully blame this current board for the state of cricket in the caribbean and if we don’t fire this board ASAP, come 2015 we will not have a West Indies Team. Let us look at the record of this board.

    1. Clive LLoyd, the father figure of windies cricket was forced to resign from the board. This has nothing to do with Gayle.

2.Guyana Cricket is in serious trouble and the WICB must be blamed for the manner in which they handled it. This has nothing to do with Gayle.

    3. Right now, Jamaica Cricket Ass. (JCA) is at war with WICB and don’t be surprise Jamaica decides to play international cricket as a single nation. We all know that they have quality players to compete against any international team. Don’t blame Gayle for that

4.Trinidad Board has threatened several times to play International Cricket as a nation. They are not happy with the board and direction they are going. Again this has nothing to do with Gayle.

5.Leeward Island cricket is nothing but pure shame and disgrace for cricket. We talking about a team that has produced the like of Viv, Richie, Ambee, the Benjamins, Stewart, Baptist, Roberts,Ridly and the list goes on. Today they are getting bowled out for 39 runs and cannot take a game to a third day. What is WICB doing to restore the game there? Don’t blame it on Gayle

6.Yet our best player cannot speak his mind. If not Gayle then who will speak against the macacwee WICB is doing?
I support Gayle 100%. he should not take his words back and instead of forcing him to retire, lovers of cricket in the region should find a way to fire this board and save our cricket,

@tell us the truth — The WICB must be cause of the world’s infinite problems man. Since you have listed only 6 of the WICB perceived evils, allow me to post 4 more to your list:
      7. The tsunami in Japan last year was the WICB’s fault.
      8. If mosquitoes come and bite you in your house, the WICB is to blame.
      9. Poverty in Africa is also the WICB’s fault.
      10. If the sun fails to rise tomorrow, don’t hesitate to blame the WICB.

Also poster who goes by the name ‘tell us the truth’ since you support Chris Gayle’s actions, why don’t you attempt a stunt on your employer (similar to the one Gayle pulled on his employers ie the WICB) and let us know how long it will take for your employer to fire you.

      • hey ho
        February 22, 2012

@Anonymous – read and listen properly – they were not his employers at the time – he was under no contract when he spoke – the WICB needs to retire
and might I add – YES the WICB are to blame for all the problems in the world D*#* A@#

Anonymous, I can tell you don’t know a thing about cricket and I am sorry for you. All six items are WICB related and your crap is totally unrelated. Bye the way, I am not a lover or hater of Cris Gayle. I am a lover of Windies Cricket and I can see Gayle is not our problem but the Board.

I agree with you for too long the WICB been playing politics and doing with our cricket and always looking to point fingers! This belief that they have needs to go away, if persons cannot speak then they get a representative body which is WIPA and even they have been at war with WICB for years now, so tell me if this whole BS is not beyond Gayle, but of course he spoke at the wrong time and place so they (WICB) jumped on him, the reality is Gayle is showing the WICB that he can making a living without then, unlike the likes of many on the current team that will bow regardless of what they are told or is said to them.
So Gayle is not bigger than cricket, well neither is WICB or the Coach. Our issues goes years before Gayle, and if left unaddressed we will continue to linger at the bottom and current position in world cricket. I wonder what happened to the Patterson Report on West Indies Cricket, maybe it should be published for all to see, maybe in there somewhere matters are raised that concern players and attitude and also of coach and management. If such is the case then just maybe Gayle was echoing what was already written on paper, why then punish him, West Indies and world cricket for speaking!

“Tell us the truth” your summation is spot on. The WICB is ineffective, they are against workers union (The players association)and have done a poor job at marketing and gernerally administering WI cricket. I don’t want to be selfish but I do think it is time for us(TT)to play cricket alone. Jamaica is also strong with a good feeder system. The other teams will gradually improve. But if we play as the Independent nations that we are there will be less insularity and we will all be represented by our best 11 players. Why the dickants can’t a non contracted Gayle speak his mind about an inept Board,Captain and Coach? Viv did the same for years!

But technically they aren’t wrong. Giving him an unconditional NOC would mean he would go on playing T20 around the world, thus making him self (by WICB rules for now) unavailable to play for Jamaica and the West Indies.

So in other words…, he wants to have his cake and eat it, not representing Jamaica and or West Indies yet putting himself on the bidding tables as a West Indian player.

I am not looking at it from the angle as to who is wrong or right in the case of he being not in the team just trying to look at this NOC thing from another angle

But he did play for JA recently. The issue here is money to be made and the choice is play for WI and make peanuts or as you say place himself on the world market and make millions. What would you do if you were Gayle?

      • Anonymous
        February 23, 2012

i would simply retire and go. Sure its about money so why does he need WICB??

And that one game for Jamaica was mere antics.

Why is this dog fight allowed to continue? The WICB through its representatives appear childish and continue to use language which is typical of children melee.

Just a few days ago Kobe Bryan of the L.A Lakers was critical of his coach and organisation, the team’s spoke person addressed the issue, it seems to be over for now. No protracted melee, about who is boss! Obviously Hilaire and the WICB seem to be using their office to be vindictive and to prove that they are the boss. No one can argue against decorum in any organisation but the question is does Mr Gayle’s punishment fit his alleged crime?

All human beings make mistakes and therefore can be criticised for their failures. In that vain therefore, Gayles criticism of the board and its acolytes may be considered justifiable but the board is now saying in a similar tone to what Sparrow accused Stolmeyer of in the Kerry Parker days…. My position is all cricket no pay…. The only difference is the board is saying if you wish to play on my team you must genuflect before Massa WICB.

See the situation in Guyana, our most respected captain chooses to withdraw his support from the WICB. Trinidad is thinking of going it alone, Jamaica and the WICB are engaged in a shouting match. The Leeward Island cricket is in disarray, with former cricketers calling for a change in their local leadership and the team including test players are bowled out for 39 runs and the WICB leadership continues to destroy our team with petty foolishness, allowing our best players to showcase their skill all over the world with aplomb whilst the Windies mire at the bottom of the list of test playing countries.

Surely it is time for the governments of the region to stand up and reclaim the pride of the West Indies telling the small minded compponents of the WICB that parochialism practiced by a more developped country is as bad as parochialism practiced by a lesser developed country.

It is unfortunate but it seems to me that the St. Lucians are now saying ‘ah foo awe time now’ Let us as a people rise up in righteous indignation against these impostors or alternatively listen to the death knell of our cricket. That is the choice we face!!!!

Well said, it appears that WICB and Otis Gibson want to prove to the world that they have the big balls and what they say is law. In the mean time Gayle is doing what everyone of us would have done if we had his talent, making money and lots of it playing cricket world wide. So Gayle should retract statement, but in the same breath it is ok for Otis Gibson to mouth-wash senior players, sure they should take part of the blame, but the WICB are the chief culprits of West Indies cricket failure and the current position we find ourselves in world cricket.
And the big question and statement as usual by some, players thinking they bigger than the game, well last time I checked Boards are not bigger than the game or players either. Respect is two-way, if you disrespect then expect to be disrespected.
We sit and talk the same old rubbish about patriotism, play for country really?? And then what? Why don’t the experts tell us how many past cricketers that are currently settled and stable enjoying a life after cricket and not working as some security guard! What of the players that got injured playing for West Indies but never got the support when needed during recovery! My point is if players like Gayle and Pollard get to make millions now then by all means they should because that is what they will fall back on down the road, and if it means that they have to give up playing for West Indies so be, guess the lost will be ours and cricket at large!
