The selection panel of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has named a 13-member squad for the two Twenty20 matches versus India, scheduled for August 27 and 28 in Florida.
The squad reads:
1. Andre Fletcher
2. Andre Russell
3. Carlos Brathwaite
4. Chris Gayle
5. Dwayne Bravo
6. Evin Lewis
7. Jason Holder
8. Johnson Charles
9. Kieron Pollard
10. Lendl Simmons
11. Marlon Samuels
12. Samuel Badree
13. Sunil Narine
All-rounder, Brathwaite been appointed captain for the two matches which will be played at the Central Broward Regional Park, Fort Lauderdale.
“Brathwaite is one of the most talented players in the T20 format of the game and his humble and committed approach to the game can inspire young and upcoming players,” said Chairman of Selectors, Courtney Browne.
“We are looking forward to a competitive series against India in these matches,” the Chairman added. The selection panel has expressed its thanks to former captain, Daren Sammy for his leadership of that format of the game for the two World Championship titles in 2012 and earlier this year.
With regards to Sammy’s omission from the squad, the Chairman noted that the named-squad was selected purely on players’ performances.
Prior to the matches in Florida, the squad, all retained players and franchise players in all six regions will participate in a players’ symposium on Wednesday, August 24 to look at the role of players and their responsibilities leading up to 2018.
The Test team will start their third match of the four-match series in St. Lucia tomorrow August 9. The fourth and final Test is scheduled for Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago, August 18 – 22. India won the first Test in Antigua and drew the second in Jamaica. India leads the series 1-0.
Shayne Shillingford is fr. D/ca and it is to difficult to get to D/ca or disembark from D/ca
All the Test playing countries in the region have Jet Airport, but Dominicans say that they don’t want one, but they may look into it in the next 30 yrs. what an uneducated nation, Jehovah God please have mercy on Dominica because we the patriot’s are the inhabitants of this piece of gold too.
I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE ALLOUT DEMONSTRATION IN ST LUCIA …
THE Selectors must be made to explain this ridiculous position that SAMMY WAS LEFT OUT BECAUSE OF HIS FORM .
We all saw Sammy at the IPL the man who brought us 2 world cups .. we know he is the leader who brings the best out of any team in T20.
The selectors are arm chair spectators not offering the west indian people any joy on the fields
WE ALL WEST INDIANS know that SAMMY spoke out at the ridiculous decisions of a board with INFLATED egos and who offer nothing to cricket except indulge in masquerading as people of self importance !
Sammy is the best Leader and by performance as an all rounder is left out but we the people allow these clowns who lead cricket to get away with heir egotistic desire to shut up big men form expressing themselves and who bring are the ones who give us pleasure as a people .
So SAMMY WHO DID SO WELL RECENTLY in StLuica and Lauderdale -MAN OF THE MATCH LAST MONTH -ON 2 OCCASIONS is not good enough for the selectors and we remain silent ..how pathetic !!!!
Thanks for your comments it will not go unnoticed, I support U 100%
Sammy bought us two World Cups? LMAO!
The guy didn’t even score a combined total of 10 runs for the entire tournament, and bowled less than 3 overs being an all-rounder. The coach himself could have captained the squad and just not bat and bowl, and West Indies would had still won. Sammy isn’t humble and he should have known that he was dispensable. ANY other nation, or even club team would have sacked Sammy.
Plus did Sammy win us the U-19 and Womens World Cups- both 1st time wins for the West Indies? look at the bigger picture.
Good team…. poor captaincy
What happen to Shayne Shillingford???
