Dominica to host Windies/Zimbabwe Test

Crowd at the Windsor Park during the Windies/Australian Test earlier this year

The Windsor Park Stadium will see more cricket action next year as Zimbabwe tours the Caribbean for a six-match series.

The West Indies will take on the African visitors in two Test matches, three One-Day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals to kick-off the international cricket programme in the Caribbean for 2013.

Dominica will host one of the two Tests to be played from Wednesday, March 20 to Sunday March 24, 2013.

The Zimbabwe tour will run from February 20 to March 20 with the ODIs at the Grenada National Stadium, the T20s at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua, followed by the Test matches at Kensington Oval in Barbados and Windsor Park.

The series will signal a resumption of Test cricket between the Windies and the Zimbabweans. The two teams last met each other in the Caribbean in 2010 when they played only limited-overs matches.

The Windsor Park saw cricket action earlier this year when the Windies and the Australians clashed in the Third Digicel Test.

Below is the full Zimbabwe tour schedule as released by WICB:

Wed, February 20: Zimbabwe v UWI Vice Chancellor’s XI, Grenada (venue to be confirmed)

Fri, February 22: 1st ODI – Grenada National Stadium, Grenada

Sun, February 24: 2nd ODI – Grenada National Stadium, Grenada

Without putting a downer on your good news, that is the time when you Dominicans should boycott the match in protest of Shillingford not being selected for the previous matches

I look forward to the test match. Dominicans are known to host lovely cricket. We need to have our own Gravey personality during the games. I can count on the officials to make these days memorable for our visitors. Lets have bubbling excitment on Roseau as never before.

    Allu Dominicans are not easy!!!!

There are fewer comments saying Praise God, the stadium is being used or we are getting some cricket action. Instead, the comments are COMPLAINTS about what kind of matches Dominica should host – Test/ ODIs etc.

You guys are a bunch of ungrateful people. First…there was noise that the stadium was being built. Now that it is built, there is noise about what is being hosted.

Can’t you guys see the positive and simply say “Thanks/Thank God”?

MAGWAYSA… if you don’t appreciate the little things what are you guys coming to?

ODI is not a problem with me. Can you all imagine a powerful WI team meeting England at Windsorpark and thousands of the Barmy Army fans are here in DA. This would have all the hoteliers smiling all the way to the bank.
Personlally i love test matches. It’s the real cricket.

      November 28, 2012

Trust me, with a 10,000 seat stadium the English fans would fill that place in no time. There would not be any hotel rooms available in Dominica. Now see the hoteliers double and triple their room rates.

It would be nice to have them (The English)next year for a test match. Not an ODI.
Cricket lovely Cricket. I love all versions of it.

@% – The English Barmy Army tends to appear in much larger numbers for test matches than ODIs and T20s. For them, it is more cost effective to come in huge numbers for test matches rather than ODIs and T20s as they are able to remain in one area for a much longer period and avoid frequent flying expenses, hotel expenses etc.

Therefore, if we want to really benefit from a massive influx of overseas cricket visitors such as the massive English Barmy Army which follows the English cricket team around the world, then it is a test match we would need to host.

England is coming to the Caribbean in 2014. I believe the Dominica Cricket Association should put their application in early – all now – to host a game in that upcoming Windies vs England series in the Caribbean in 2014.

Oh yes – Test matches are the real thing and not circus shows like T20 cricket. Solid food in the form of test matches & ODIs is always better than T20 cricket junk food.

Test matches are ideal for this struggling country. More revenue.
NO limited overs matches. We have to learn to win test matches first. It is the mother of all cricket.

ODI’S should be in the next five to ten years in Dominica, when we have players who are world beaters. Players who can win test matches.
Stay home if all you dont want to view test match cricket.

Nantan must let westindies board know that we in domnica need to get odi’s or 20/20. Instead of mou-mah-taying let dem understand how domnicans love cricket. Test game is good, but is a waste here, if you want the joy of cricket in DA, gv us odi and 20/20. D board had congratulate us when they had d 20/20, when the other island’s stadium stayed empty. So why he not pushing for that? People that doh understand cricket make sure dey in d stadium. Come on Nantan, and do better for DA.

Well Dominicans, start preparing to show yourselves in full force once again for the world to see.

The 2013 international cricket season in the Caribbean is going to be a very busy one with Zimbabwe coming first, followed later in the year by a tri-series in the Caribbean involving India, Sri Lanka and the West Indies and then a series involving Pakistan and the West Indies.

I trust Dominica also gets to host some games in either the tri-series or the Pakistan tour to the Caribbean later this year.

I do not have a problem with the test would be nice to get one days or 20twentys with that also but I’m happy we are getting games it’s a plus to us in D/ca.

    • Lol
      November 28, 2012

The test matches helps hotels in Dominica to get filled and creates brisk business for many low income persons.

This is strategic for it allows minimum disruption in the workplace – hence many more employees can get a chance on a rotational basis. Many persons sees it as a win-win. ODIs and 20/20 will make money in Dominica if they are held on weekends but by andlarge we Dominicans love the traditional extended version of the game. I for one do. Win, loose, or draw I in that.

    • catherine
      November 28, 2012

IF i remember clearly we got one days first. And we were asking why aren’t we getting test. We’ve gotten one days against Bangladesh and South Africa and we got test against India and Australia. We just have not gotten T20. In time I’m sure we will. Please lets be appreciative, there was a time when we had to travel to see international cricket, or better still when we could only listen on radio. Then came the time when we could watch an entire match on television. So my people, be patient, its a bit at a time.
