Minister for Information, Science, Telecommunication and Technology, Kelvar Darroux, has announced that the much talked about Centre of Excellence for ICT, at the Dominica State College, will be commissioned on June 3, 2016.

“The government of Dominica will also be making another major investment that will directly impact our young people. On the 3rd of June, we will be commissioning the Centre of Excellence for ICT,” he said, on Wednesday, at the 43rd graduation ceremony of the Youth Skills Training Program.

The Minister described the venture as a “major investment that will allow our young people to be gainfully employed, and be trained in specific areas that relate to ICT Information and Communication Technology, at the upper wing of the Dominica State College.”

Darroux urged all young persons to take advantage of the opportunities which will be made available at the centre, in order to continue to make meaningful contributions to the country and to themselves.

The $292,000 project is a collaborative effort between the Government of Dominica and the Republic of India.

After phase one of the project was completed in July 2015, Darroux announced, in October 2015, that the government was moving into the second phase of the project.

In December 2015, he announced in Parliament that the center was nearing completion.

Also in December 2015, the Government Information Service (GIS) revealed that the center was in the testing phase and that an additional $500,000 was allocated to the project by Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit.

In April 2016, Darroux stated that a three-man delegation from India would arrive on-island to accelerate the process for the commencement of tuition at the Centre of Excellence.

The Indian team is expected to remain here for two years, while undertaking a training of trainers program, in the first instance.

Look at the poor quality of the furniture. They always boast if state if the art.. One is left to wonder what’s the brand of computers used and who got the contracts…
One last point, when will these ministers get the point that it’s not okay to be wearing party colors at such functions? This young minister is really sickening with his red shirts at state n government functions. Perhaps he should wear red pants too.
You guys are playing politics with the people. The division and strife in Dominca is caused by you all.

The DSC need to ensure that there is internet access in all classrooms and staff rooms. That’s where the centre of excellence begins.

    Honourable Darroux,
It is my hope that with the advent of this Centre of Excellence the internet at the secondary schools will function. Recently I visited the Castle Bruce Secondary School and the North East Comprehensive to educate the students and by golly, the system does NOT work.
    HOTEP!
