IRD goes digital

filingThe Inland Revenue Division (IRD) is in the process of implementing new measures to improve its services, which include implementation of a new E-filing system.

Comptroller of the Inland Revenue Division, Irving Williams, says the new system will make it easier and quicker for people to file and pay taxes without having to come to the Inland Revenue Division.

“No longer will being off island be the excuse for not remitting returns on time. The Inland Revenue will also attempt to introduce other measures that will improve the services provided to tax payers. One of them is the setting up of a new section that will be responsible for assisting and providing special services to our larger tax payers,” he added.

Meantime Acting Prime Minister, Reginald Austrie, said government is fully supportive of the new E-filing Tax system.

“Today many revenue officers around the world receive a large percentage of file returns by electronic means. Convenience and accuracy are among the most common reasons why tax payers chose electronic filing. No longer would we have to rush to the IRD before the office is closed. Some concerns have been expressed about the security of information but tax payers are given the assurance that all information submitted electronically will be secured,” he stated.

The Acting Prime Minister also cautioned businesses that deduct Pay As You Earn from employees but fail to remit.

Meantime long service awards were presented to three employees, including Margaret-Rose Burton, who joined the organization in 1989, Lottie Leslie who joined in 1992 and Sylma Lloyd who entered the service in 1989.

Customer Service Awards were presented to Kira Harris, Raiser Miler and Marcus White.

The 12 Annual Tax Awareness Week is being observed under the theme “Compliance made easy through online filing”.

Don’t some of you think that if they were ready to taxpayers to file their 2012 income tax returns online they would have implemented that system before the filing season opened in January? The article reads “IN THE PROGRESS OF IMPLEMENTING” not implemented.

How many people have computers and internet access to file electronically?

Here is a business opportunity. Get into the tax prepartation business, similar to H&R Block. Here you go, now you can send me a commission check every month.
