Over 83 million ‘fake’ users on Facebook

Facebook has revealed that it believes there are now more than 83 million fake users on the social network.

In company filings published this week, it said 8.7% of its 955 million active users might not be real.

Duplicate profiles made up 4.8% of the users, user-misclassified accounts amounted to 2.4%, and 1.5% of users were described as “undesirable”.

    I leave a leave a response each time I especially enjoy a
post on a site or if I have something to valuable to contribute to the discussion.
Usually it’s triggered by the fire displayed in the post I browsed. And on this article Over 83 million ‘fake’ users on Facebook | Dominica News Online. I was excited enough to post a thought :-P I do have 2 questions for you if you tend not to mind. Could it be simply me or do a few of these comments come across like coming from brain dead visitors? :-P And, if you are writing at additional sites, I would like to follow you. Could you make a list the complete urls of all your public sites like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?

If most of the 83 million “fake users” happened like in my case, who is to blame but facebook organizers themselves?

Someone hijacked my email address, last October and so I had no choice but renew that address; but that account is, and was a Gmail address.

I had signed up on facebook through MSN Canada, and in doing so, I had to have an MSN email address or inbox.

So after completing my new Gmail address I went on facebook to talk with my friends, just to find out that I had no entry. Their prompts kept on telling me that I had a new address, however when I used my new Gmail address and password–which what I had renewed–I still could not get through.

It took me all day but I tried and tried until I decided to open another facebook account, which of course they allowed me to do. The process went through okay–this time I used a Jesus picture as my profile picture.

Thinking that the problem was solved I decided to continue as usual, to check my news feed. Some problem again; for I kept getting the prompt that my password was wrong.

I continued trying, until they showed me on a map where the hijacker tried to use my account, that is why they had blocked me; and so. all I had to do was to tell tham that I was not the person who at that location–where the hijacker tried to get into my account.

That was the time they gave me back my old account, but all I needed was to renew my password, and so I got back on facebook.

Except that each time I enter my name to go on my wall, the other profile picture which I used to try to get a new account is still there, making me another person on facebook. So whose fault is that, since I do not know how to delete that account?

From my point of view and instinct, do you want to know the truth pertaining to this article? Nearly every worldwide business enterprise, if not all of them use Facebook.
Whenever I observe recipes and other articles on a Canadian Website and I access that Website, I have noticed “Facebook’s Website.” Blame those enterprises who obviously pay an exorbitant sum of money to Faceboook for posting their advertisements in order to reach millions of people world-wide. Therefore, why is Facebook complaining?
Those people whom they call Fake users have no choice when they access those enterprises. If there is another reason I am not aware of, I would like to read about it.
Frankly, I am not pleased to access Facebook when I download recipes and other information from those Websites. This is advertisement for those Websites. I have observed that it makes access very slow for whatever reason.
I have informed some people that whether we subscribe to Facebook or not, our names and certain information are on Facebook, as I also heard and read through the Canadian Media.
I heard that Facebook keeps a profile of all those who access those Websites. No exception when we access DNO. Therefore, they call us fake users.
I am not easily deceived by Facebook’s comments as ‘fake users.’ It gives us the impression that we are accessing Facebook illegally.
Why do business enterprises go through Facebook? They can do so individually and still reach numerous people also for their advertisements. This is food for thought.
Take note and action businesses, you may not need Facebook at all and probably never. In so doing you could save a lot money in this cost-cutting age. You are only making Facebook richer, a millionaire which it already has achieved because of your advertisements. How much have you benefited from them and for advertising on Facebook?
In view of certain complaints about Facebook, some people have severed ties with it.
By the way there is a convenient store in the area where I reside which advertises, ‘access their business on Facebook and you could win $25.00.’ Likewise other enterprises. In order to do so it is imperative that you enter all your personal information. There is always a hitch. Therefore, I am not turned on about it at all.

Is anyone real these days? There are fake husbands, wives, girlfriends and boyfriends, friends etc. You see a woman today with long hair, long nails, blue eyes, big breasts, buttocks, lashes or what have you and a completely different person next day. This whole world is fake.

    • August 3, 2012

      @Waitukubilli=original

Hehehehehehehehehehe! You sound above, as if we human beings of today are all suffering from split personality–like the many faces of Eve!

Eve was a woman suffering form split personallity just as you described above. She knew the names of all the other persons (women) who possessed her and so she simple acted like the one that showed up her mind.

But I can see your point–and that is why I also believe it is a mad, mad, mad, mad, world out there. May our Lord God have mercy on us!

So many fake accounts, according to the latest 10-Q form filed on July 30th,

      http://www.secdatabase.com/CIK/1326801/Company-Name/FACEBOOK-INC

Facebook is facing the real challenge not disclosed in its IPO filing. Slow user grower rate, ineffective Ads, lot of fake users, and even robot clicks!. You should read its filing from top to bottom, and you may think – will it be another myspace?

      @ tiny

We are told and warned that we should never use our real name On-Line for obvious reasons just as much as you do not use your real name on this Website. :) I have read about it.
The exception is if we are conducting business On-Line.

They must be idle people who have nothing constructive to do with their time, just to read about the personal affairs of others. There are some people in every day life as some neighbors, even co-workers who do just that. They rank in every aspect of life.

I have also heard, Internet is good but some people use it for evil as in all things.
The Internet is not private. Everything we state could be traced right back to us. Therefore, people must be careful what they write. We have freedom of speech but ensure that it is not against the Law and to access reputable-approved Websites on the Internet.
DNO is OK as I will always state, as we provide our comments or ask questions.
I would not be accessing DNO if this Website was not a reputable one, which provides current and also previous Dominica News. Thanks TO DNO!
We must be respectful of the views of others even though we may not agree with them. Free to agree and disagree while according them their due rights and dignity as we expect of them. This is a godly, Christian, considerate act.
