The French assist Dominica Post Hurricane Maria

The French lend assistance to Dominica on the passage of Hurricane Maria

The French civil security helicopter “Dragon 972” landed on the premises of the State House yesterday afternoon Tuesday 19th September, to assist the Dominican authorities in obtaining a first-hand overview of the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria on Monday.

It was the first occasion for the Prime Minister to give direct a testimony on the situation, especially since the country has been isolated and cut out from the rest of the world.

The French personnel had discussions with the Prime Minister Skerrit on the type of intervention and aid immediately needed. The French helicopter will return to Dominica today. In the coming days, medical and other essential personnel should be on the island to assist, for as long as their services are required.

The French Embassy to the OECS Member States, in Saint Lucia, is working in close collaboration with the OECS Commission to assist Dominica in its recovery efforts.

A friend who is a US resident and is vacationing in Europe telephoned me tonight and told me that DNO is operating again. I thought it was from Dominica. I did miss DNO and kept checking if I would be able to read about some news of Dominica.
Nevertheless, I must thank DNO, Houston for faithfully keeping us informed until DNO Dominica is back to normal. You are one and the same.
I hope all DNO Dominica staff are OK, health-wise at least.
    God bless you!

Thank you to the French. It is a good thing Dominica has the State House and the premises are large enough that the helicopter could land on it.
