Tonge promises to use WCMF energy to create attractive carnival programme

Tonge called on the public to support Carnival 2019

Minister for Tourism and Culture, Senator Robert Tonge, has said that following the success of the 2018 World Creole Music Festival (WCMF), his ministry, along with the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), is determined to use the same energy to create a Carnival programme that will draw attention to Dominica’s unique Carnival.

He was speaking at the official media launch for Carnival 2019, the Real Mas held on Wednesday.

He said Mas Domnik is a special time for the people of Dominica as it signifies happiness, unity, love and talents among persons and communities.

“After the success of the 2018 World Creole Music Festival (WCMF), we are determined to use the same energy and create a spirit and fashion a Carnival programme that will draw attention to Dominica for its unique carnival,” Tonge said.

According to him, Dominica’s Carnival must grow to attract larger influx of returning Dominicans and visitors from all over the world to experience the region’s most spontaneous Carnival celebrations.

He went on to say that Carnival is a key part of the country’s strategy to grow its tourism industry and to connect with other sectors of the national economy.

“We consider the celebration as pivotal to our efforts as building cultural industries, the cultural industry sector alongside music and entertainment, performing arts, fashion and designs and film and audio visual.” Tonge stated. “We see great possibilities in creating these sectors to help create jobs, generate foreign exchange and stimulate the local economy. “

The Tourism Minister pledged the government’s and Ministry of Tourism’s support in mobilizing the necessary resources to assist in achieving new objectives.

He also called on the public to support the Carnival events.

Director of Tourism and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DDA Colin Piper has said coming off a reunion year the 2019 Carnival Celebrations is expected to be just as grand and encouraged every one “to be a part of Mas Domnik 2019.”

Robbie, boy you again with the nonsense talk. Why not work on improving the physical plant. Add a bus depot, car park and don’t forget to seal the open drains. How can I forget modern garbage trucks and a street sweeper for Roseau and environs.

I am fed-up of listening and reading BS from these so called qualified dunce politicians, who think that we are stupid and cannot see nor are we of some level to judge and assess their failed performance as they continue to reduce our island Domininca to the levels of deprivation, pauper, poverty, hopelessness and corruption with no sign ahead as to where we gong and where we really want to be. These faille labour government are like a fast food dirty kitchen where there is no menu for development, there is no strategic plan, they wake they open their fridge and see Kool-aid, they drink not concern of their health and diet and that of our ugly looking, deprived nature isle Dominica. This Labour government has stained the credible name of our nature Isle and they must Go, Get lost. That is where we are in Dominica with these obsessed political clowns.

Everything in Dominica is political, government has no place in Carnival, government should not be putting money into carnival sponsoring any show, paying Bands to perform, Dominica is the only place that happens.

I do not know any place between Trinidad in the South to Jamaica in the North government plays any part in Carnival. Brazil Carnival is the biggest, and best in the world, government is not involved.

They have Carnival in the State of Louisiana in the United States bigger, and better than Dominica; nevertheless, the State government do not spend money on Carnival; again only  in Dominica!
