Dominica formally opens the 2011/2012 cruise season on Monday October 3rd 2011, when the MV Emerald Princess, will dock at the Roseau Cruise Ship berth.
The MV Emerald Princess is part of the Princess Cruise Lines and intends to make another 10 calls to Dominica this season.
Discover Dominica Authority has organized a welcome reception to mark the occasion, conch shell blowers and steel pan entertainers will be present to welcome the ship.
Dominica expects 193 cruise calls for the season which runs through April 2012. This figure is in contrast to 205 calls for the previous year.
Good news for taxi men.
BUT.. Traffic dept please do something about the Taxi’s that park from Fort YOung Hotel to the bayfront. I hate being stuck in traffic for 20 – 30 mins because of that!!! Sometimes traffic is backed up all the way to newtown! Please explore other areas for them to park.
I saw a lil something being done this morn but i know how it is … is always a one time thing!
well i tell you what there is a lot to do in dominica in regards to tourist year after year we want the ships to come but no change in the country to make it more appealing to the new comers and those re-visiting .guys we are not the only ones who want their money and if we are going in the compition we need to be ready .
great news for business. smiles
Work on keeping Roseau clean especially near the market area. That area should be the most sanitary because food is being sold there. It’s time to start thinking of relocating the market and using that area for another venture. This is prime real estate in the heart of town.
I hope the Minister of Tourism prepare the
islands for the visitors.Roseau needs a good
cleaning. The culture of Dominica should be promoted at the dock. The tourists love as they disembark to see the culture of the island on display. and security is extremely
important. The homless guys are great distraction to visitiors .The taxi drivers
have to promote dominica the way they approach the tourist and their fairness in their price. Then when they visit all the
natural beauty they have to come back.
We have to do it together.every little bit
counts. It is not about the Administration. it is about our Beloved….Dominica
Cleaning Roseau is every citizen’s responsibility, not just the Governemnt’s
Good luck to all involved. Hope this season is more profitable than the last.
NOW: What has been done to clean up Roseau before the season gets underway?
Will the seating at the bayfront be repaired/replaced?
Will the bins actually be in place by Monday (the ones being raved about on the radio)?
Will parking of tour buses be sorted by Monday?
I cound go on and on. Seriously, first impression counts, its rumoured that the smell and dirt are just a couple of the reasons why certain cruise lines stopped comming, so fix the problem(s), and not with a sticking plaster, but in a way that will bring them back and, make Dominica proud.
Awesome comment!.I concur
Whats wrong with you people. If you read what you wrote again, you will realize that all these things are things we should do for all people who live, work, do business or simply enjoy Roseau. And that starts with all Dominicans. Dominicans are the ones who first and foremost deserve to live in an environment that is healthy and attractive. Tourists last.Let us treat ourselves first to the standards we deserve and then let the tourists benefit!!!!
I agree that we should put Dominicans first, but we are not selling Dominica as a tourist attraction to Dominicans.
so we are getting a new ship or two, if we lost Destiny and the calls only went down by 12, thats not such a bad blow.
i just hope the tourists come to spend
get the Kalinago people involved in a welcome dance or re enactment of a battle. A high quality USP going wasted year after year.
While they talking we working.
Hahahahahahahahaha
Poor BUWO less calls is GOOD NEWS poor BUWO
Tourism is falling all over the world boss. It is less, yes, but it is better than nothing.
What would you say if there were NONE coming. We have to give praises for what we getting, no matter how small. In this tough economic times worldwide, anything is welcomed. Some countries are not so lucky.
Hahahahahahahahaha
this very good news for the economy, taxi drivers , and the ventors. GOOD LUCK DOMINICA.
how can a decrease number of calls be good news. like everything in dominica is good news .
Dominican Abroad you are a true Patriot.
