President of the Bayfront Vendors Association Inc, Roy Romain, is calling on stakeholders in the tourism industry to continue to provide quality service to visitors.
“As you already know Carnival is very good for us, those of us the stakeholders in the tourism industry, especially for us those who are vending,” he said in interview. “We have been trained specifically to deal with the tourists, so we have been doing good so far.”
He stated there is no room for mediocrity in the tourism industry.
“We have a good thing going so I hope we can continue to improve upon what we have, there is no room for mediocrity in this business,” Romain said. “We need to improve, getting better and better so when the people interact with us and see how we deal with them, they will be encouraged to come back to our shores.”
Meantime, he said the association is very happy to see that Carnival has sent another ship to the shores of Dominica.
“We haven’t seen anything positive materialize for the last visit but we are very optimistic that this cruise ship on our shores, that something positive will come out from it,” Romain stated.
Carnival Triumph is the second cruise ship of Carnival Cruise Lines to visit Dominica this season.
Carnival pulled out of Dominica recently citing high fuel costs and visitors’ complaint.
Charity begins at home. If you want to be providing service to foreigners and tourists, you best learn to give it to the people here in DA first. Service doesn’t just come out on special occasions.
Does quality include having market stalls full of Chinese imports that tourist see on every other island, or is quality (and pride) more about doing something to promote our own skilled artisans and crafts people who cannot get their own pitches anywhere on the tourism font line ? Talk is cheap and so is the rubbish the vendors are currently flogging.

What were the visitors complaining about and how was this addressed?
