Monday October 5, 2015 marks the opening of the 2015/2016 Cruise Season.

Dominica, expects to welcome the MV Royal Princess of Princess Cruises at the Woodbridge Bay Port.

Activities to commemorate the event have been planned by the Ministry of Tourism and Urban Renewal and Discover Dominica Authority in collaboration with the Cultural Division.

This will include cultural entertainment at the Woodbridge Bay Port and Trafalgar Falls Facility.

The industry has been eagerly awaiting the opening of the 2015/2016 cruise ship season. A total of 174 cruise calls are projected for the cruise season. This translates to approximately 290,000 passengers.

Additionally, Dominica will welcome nine new cruise ships. Inaugural ceremonies to include plaque exchange will be organized to welcome the ships. While the 2015/2016 will have 9.4% less cruise calls than the 192) received during the 2014/2015 season, there is a projected 5.8% increase in passengers. During the 2014/2015 season Dominica welcomed 274,346 cruise passengers.

The Ministry of Tourism and Discover Dominica Authority are quite pleased with the efforts of the stakeholders to organize the island’s tourism trade following the passage of the Tropical Storm Ericka. The stakeholders have collaborated in order to have a good showing on October 5, 2015. A series of consultations and site visits have been held with key stakeholders such as Forestry, Public Works and the Tourism Unit of the Dominica Police Force.

Tourism Minister, Robert Tonge, said, “We feel very proud of the fact that we have managed to maintain a very high number of cruise ship calls to the island. The fact that we have over 150 cruise ships making calls to the island indicates that the approach we have taken towards marketing the destination has continued to pay off and that Dominica is still a destination in high demand.”

DDA will continue to work with the relevant authorities to enhance the appeal of our City and therefore solicits to the cooperation of all tourism stakeholders in ensuring a welcoming and enjoyable visit for the cruise visitors.

We ask that every effort is made to ensure a safe, friendly, clean and hassle free atmosphere for cruise visitors.

    Hello DNO!

Can you please forward a link to the schedule of this seasons cruise ship dockings like you did last year? I think this should be official and readily available to all Dominicans.

    Thanks in advance.

I saw the Royal Princess come into port today and was told it has to park at Woodbridge Bay because it is too big for Roseau. Now, the passengers, who want to visit town have to negotiate an unsafe and messy stretch of road in Potterville to do so. That has nothing to do with Erika but has been so for years. Then, how will they proceed? Across the Chinese friendship bride that is closed for repairs., or the one higher up that is a hazard in itself? To see what? Roseau is not exactly a pretty sight, is it? Only yesterday they were patching up holes on the bayfront. Everything last minute, vaikivai! Surely we can do better than that. It is not yesterday we knew that the cruise ships are coming. Where is that mayor for Roseau? Looks like she too has to await commands from the P.M. himself before she can breathe and exhale.

Welcome to the visitors from the Royal Princess, this is what we have to offer,no artificial surroundings, just nature we are the Nature Island of the Caribbean,I will not cry you down. There are worst places open to cruise visitors and the natives do not cry down their country. The cruise organizers did visit prior to this and they gave the thumbs up. This is what we have,Nature at it’s best.

Nature at its best in a dirty environment. Someone must have forgotten that there was going to be a cruise ship in port today.

Sorry my friend but wishful thinking is no substitute for reality.
