Cruise ship passengers learn of Dominica’s natural beauty

MV Mein Schiff

The captain of the cruise ship MV Mein Schiff 2, Kjell Holm, said passengers were told of Dominica and its natural beauty before docking on the island.

The vessel of TUI Cruise Lines made its first call to Dominica Tuesday, with the theme: “Well-being, fitness and relaxation.”

At a welcome ceremony aboard the ship Holm said, “We do tell our guests about this island. It is the natural island, the nature island, beautiful.”

The MV Mein Schiff 2, registered in Malta, docked here with 1,843 passengers, one of eleven visits that it will make here for the 2011/2012 cruise ship season.

Local tourism officials got the opportunity to tell the ship’s crew of Dominica’s tourism product. Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Tourism Claudia Bellot said officials are “striving” to make local sites more visitor-friendly.

Do they protect the tourists when they disembark the ship and walk around to prevent them from being taken advantage of it turns people off when they believes they were taken advantage of and bamboozled. They also need to make sure that they do not become victims of crime, robbery and rape. In this internet age bad publicity spreads like wild fire. The police force needs to have a special task force to protect tourists.

All the old building that is in Roseau need to be dealt with as it does make the capital look run down.

I was on a cruise to D/a in January of this year and the way they potrate the town on the ship was a ragged town and that really did hurt me as a Dominican.
