Destination Dominica marketing to intensify in 2016

The Ministry of Tourism is expected to intensify the marketing of Dominica as an ideal tourist destination in 2016.

Hon Minister for Tourism, Senator Robert Tonge told GIS News last week that the whole idea of analytics will be explored this year as the Ministry seeks to increase visitor arrivals to the island.

“Analytics is basically using your shopping patterns. For example, if you go on Amazon to buy a book or drill, when you go to Facebook, you see [related ads].

“So as opposed to putting our adverts and hoping people find it, we can now begin to use analytics so that when people begin to shop for vacations and packages that Dominica offers, they will see [Dominica as an option].”

He said, “Hopefully that will increase our chances of bringing business to Dominica.”

Tourism officials will also seek to boost the yachting sector in 2016.

“We’re not at the stage where we want to be but we definitely want to have more moorings so persons can come and anchor.

“We continue to work with the Portsmouth Association for Yacht Security which is doing a fantastic job in terms of security. They have their own boat and with assistance from the Ministry of Tourism, they are building a dock; we have about six feet left to build.

“It is being used however and making it easier for guests to come to Dominica.”

He says his Ministry is committed to the development of the sector.

“Community tourism is important for community residents to benefit from tourism activities. If they don’t benefit, they will see no need for them to participate.

“There are many little things which we have to work on and we have noted them all. We have small task forces so we can zero in…and address the issues,” he assured.

After lecturing the readers on a word he recently discovered, the Senator concluded, “Hopefully that will increase our chances of bringing business to Dominica.” Ha ha ha, boy mista not easy! After all the persuasion he could muster about the ideals of Analytics, the Senator himself is not even sure about the gains of his new intervention. We are now down to “hopefully!” After spending all the tourism marketing monies so that Dominica will show up when some key words are entered in the search, Robbie says, “hopefully……………..” “if we are lucky” “peradventure”. Boss, I am no more hopeful than before I read this article.

Roseau needs a daily clean up or hose down with strong Disinfectant. Dominica needs a Jets Strip, if we can’t build an International Airport as yet.

This is one of the beautiful pictures of Nature Island. It is extremely inviting.
Dominicans should give their blessings and encouragement to this venture.

Without proper air access to Dominica it will be very difficult to attract over night tourist to our lovely Island. I’ve spoken to several tourist and it’s the same all the time AIR ACCESS. If one has to fly to Dominica he or she has to make several stops before getting there and may have to overnight in another island and it’s the same thing again when flying out of Dominica. Who in the world likes to go through all that hassle? So please do something first about air access to Dominica, it’s long overdue and let us come together and get it done.

artfield bristol – what do u expect the minister of tourism to address if not tourism?

whats a good reason crime has spiked? erika + no WCMF = big losses of uninsured assets + low income from a season starter/major event. people don’t have money = lets make more avenues for money = lets get more yachties. i do believe we have minister of security who you should be expecting to address this. tourism minister input on this subject should be secondary at best

By now Robbie you should know that you are preaching to the choir unless your congregation is full of Portsmouth , Grandbay,Viellecase people. We heard this from Ian a number of times even when LIAT had flights scheduled for Dominica. Isn’t it a chicken or egg situation. Visitors can’t get reliable flights in and out of Dominica at this time. It seems like we need to be focusing on resolving the air access malady. 15 years of an administration that is way to myopic and incompetent ti understand how to plan and execute development goals and objectives.
Hiw does a country move forward when the people believe that hand out gets us to the next level. Did it?
A Chinese built Stadium, Chinese resurfaced roadway and Chinese built state house and Chavez donated houses is candy for the eyes of people in a fools paradise.
I must admit this administration has done a great job growing ignorance and foolish loyalty.

Natural beauty is one thing but it looks better when integrated with proper infrastructure. It’s a shame that after all these years in power the only thing Dominica can boast is natural beauty. Yet Ministry of Tourism feels proud about it. They are proud to boast natural beauty that God developed centuries ago. But what has their government developed so far? That natural beauty was already there before you guys came into office so don’t credit for it. 16 years in office and our infrastructure is worse than 2000 BC. You guys not even doing basic things like putting life guards on the beaches for people if they’re drowning. Is all in them areas there employment can be created. The fact is that while you all are trying so hard to attract tourist, your sister islands like Trinidad and Barbados are doing it effortlessly. What worldwide celebrities do you ever see coming down here regularly? A place with no night life and by 4:00 PM everywhere close down.

Blablabla, double it in 2017 + triple in 2018 x quadriple in 2019 + same dirty Roseau + same egg heads = same foolish results. Whatever!
