The Discover Dominica Authority will be embarking on a new project to beautify Roseau as part of Tourism Awareness Month this year.
The project dubbed “the City-Paint-a-Thon will be hosted on May 21-22.
Research and Statistics Officer at Discover Dominica Authority, Monique Jacob Duclair, said a number of home owners in the city have already signed on to the project.
Duclair said the project will be done by professional painters.
that is a very welcoming idea. The paint is very good, but that alone is not fulfilling the goal properly. Other ideas that can be implemented into the beautifying plan are as follows:
1. Removal of old and rusty galvanize as one person said earlier.
2. Replace the stone sidewalks with new stones. This will reduce the trips and falls that many
experience.
3. Hosing down of the dirty walls of buildings from the rootops due to rain runoff.
4. The demolishing of old buildings that are takiing up unessary space. Or the renovation of
rundown places.
5. The building of a wall behind the bustops along the riverside, that could be painted with the words bustop, and where the busses are headed to. This could make visitors, who are shy to questioning, travels easier.
6. I love animals, but when they are stray its a big problem. Dogs are ti numerous on the streets of roseau, paroing worse than the paros them self. peeing everywhere and they are a nuissance. They aren’t clean and makes an area look untidy. A suggestion putt them down.
7. The idea that home owners are into this as well is very good. cause truthly homes in the city/ town should be how some are today.
good job sir
I do agree on the pastels, more plants, and more tourist friendly road signs.
This is EXCELLENT NEWS! The old houses really need a face lift..The
drains are full of moss and debris. Let us keep it clean. It will
be good for the tourists as well as the residents, also keep the mentally ill
from the streets begging .Roseau needs a total makeover Do not forget the old market.
Maybe we could save some tax payers money by putting the prisioners
to work on some of these projects. I am happy at this NEWS.” Bon Dieu
bene Dominic nous” Lilttle by little we will get there. We have come alongway
much to be done but we are in the right direction. These are projects that
require unity. Whatever good that happens to Dominica is a reflection of all of us
both here there and everywhere
Paint alone aint gonna do it.
So long that ‘waste of a time” Mayor and that “more talk than action” Minister of Urban Renewal talking about the redevelopment of Roseau.
without proper sidewalk and drainage and these old garvanise used for fencing certain area in Roseau need to be moved. Roseau will not beautiful without these actions taken, persons on wheel chair doesn’t have access to shop in Roseau,I have seen passengers on wheel chair from several cruise ships doesn’t have access too shop in the city .Roseau really doesn’t attract visitor too come back again.I wish something can be done,Dominica is a beautiful Island. Roseau need more attention and Dominica will be number one in the Caribbean..
Fantastic initiative!
Please also do some tree planting it will enhance Roseau’s beauty.
good job!! we welcome this!!remember pastel colours!!!
PLEASE Mr Mayor clean up the drains at the bus stop in Roseau; I mean in Lagoon.
SOOO happy to hear this! I was just walking in town the other day and noticed how it’s starting to look better.. new buildings.. upgrades being made to older buildings…. painting buildings is another great step:) I agree with some comments here as well… get rid of the vendors.. fix the sidewalks and drains…
Possibly clearing the vendors along the riverside across from the market, KFC etc and making more parking.
Making a few of the smaller streets in town “no parking” to clear up congestion
Ticketing those who park on the sidewalk…nothing should go on the side walk except peoples feet!
Great initiative! And whilst you’re at it, FREE UP THE PAVEMENTS! Many a time I see tourists, particularly those not used to our English side of the road, scurrying for safety when they are forced to use the main roadway as a footpath because the proper pedestrian sidewalk is obstructed.
oooooooooooooo and fix de ugly thing they call fountain on bayfront first
yea get rid yes of the rats the smelly drains and nasty dogs that roam the road and shit on de side walk that u have to walk with your head down to c where u going build proper sidewalks for us pedestrian to walk without hurting our ankles come on man we need these thing b4 painting that is y de rich gets richer and de poor gets poorer
I hope they don’t paint anything blue in the city? What an ugly colour. Give me some pastels…okay?
DNO, it appears that the Mayor of Roseau seem to be engage in the defense of Gadhafi rather than beautifying the city, discover dominica concentration should be the out skirts of the town than the city, pl dont take away the responsiblities of the mayor from him he got to work /earn his salary
That’s a good move but Roseau needs more than painting. Firstly, you all needs to mark the streets, Secondly fix the sidewalks, thirdly build a parking lot too much congestion in de city especially during busy times like month end, Christmas, carnival and independence.
Good work DDA.
About TIME!!!! However, I see this as a QUICK FIX which leaves the BIGGER issues sidelined. Nonetheless, a good effort on the part of all involved. Roseau really NEEDS a fixing.
And the fat head Cecil going to take the praise.
Done properly this would be a huge project. That place needs an extreme makeover.
paint get rid of all the big rats that are running arond roseau, and the smelling drains.
fix the sidewalks….plant small trees, those that will not grow taller than, say 8ft tall, along the sidewalks…
what about sidings, can it be used on homes in dominica? i’ve seen a 180 degree difference on the exterior apperannce on homes. couldn’t believe such a small fix xould make such a big difference.
First step – tackle the vendors at the same time – dont mask the problem with a fresh coat of paint – that is like sweeping the dust under the rug.
Tackle the issues head on……
You took that from my mouth. Last time I was home, at certain places, I had to squeeze to pass through with my daugher… the sidewalks are so narrow, yet vendors are allowed to use the little space that is there.
That is tru the vendors are almost on evryturn and its very irritating to be walking and your hindered. Most times people step out on the road to walk. Government should do something about this. Many will be upset, and say this is how they make their income, but they have to be understandable about the situation is congesting the sidewalk
that’s nice
