Dominica’s “lush paradise” has once again attracted international attention.
Yahoo! Travel has named Dominica among 10 countries branded the “world’s best tropical destinations both near and far”. The other countries are Bonaire, Arunachal Pradesh, India; Singapore; Hawaii’s Big Island; Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique; Wet Tropics of Queensland, Australia; St. John, US Virgin Islands; Vanuatu and Panama.
The article reads: “Lush rainforests, savannahs teeming with wildlife, fertile farmlands, and a diverse population of mammalian and plant life. Sound good? If so, a tropical vacation might be perfect for you. The tropics are irresistible to vacationers who like to go to the beach, but also want a little something extra, be it hiking, zip-lining, or snorkeling. We’ve rounded up 10 of the world’s best tropical destinations, both near and far. Read on to start dreaming about (and planning) your own tropical escape.”
Regarding Dominica, the article states: “Dominica welcomes visitors with the allure of nature. Tropical forests cover more than two thirds of the island, and within this lush paradise lies a boiling lake, sulphur springs, botanical gardens, and around 1,200 plant species. Additionally, the island is home to Morne Trois Pitons National Park, the first UNESCO World Heritage site in the eastern Caribbean. On the waterfront, the island teems with coral reefs, perfect for viewing sea life up close with a dive or snorkeling excursion. Known as the “Whale Watching Capital of the Caribbean,” Dominica is the only island where sperm whales frolic all year round, so you have a great chance of spotting one of these majestic creatures during your vacation.”
Are you aware that the person who translated the Testament visited Dominica before he did? Yes, long, long time ago people were visiting Dominica, and very prominent ones I must say Therefore it is speculated that he “Land of Eden” is referring to Dominica.
As a child I grew up with a feeling deep within me and a recognition that Dominica was special, my people were special, As an adult I am overjoyed at knowing that my feelings were right and totally justified, today I feel a sense of pride and joy that my country Dominica,s place as one of the most BEAUTIFUL place on earth is beginning to be recognized.
I love you D.A and the people of DA. lets work to keep our country beautiful and great.
I have visited some caribbean islands, but Dominica was the most beautyful one. I love this nature Island and it’s people. When I have finnished work I want to stay for a longer time in Dominica.
The Chinese also se Domiica as the best tropical place in the world.
THATS WHY THE TAKING IT FROM US….. EVER SO SLOWLY
COULD YOU STOP TALKING BS
I lived in Grandbay for many years, my children are grandbarians, never had a problem, in fact, i enjoyed living there. Made lots of friends there. I think Shatta lives there but is high on some kind of substance. Get off the spliff man
one can smell and feel it as soon as the plane taxi the run way. Though considered to be a poor country, DA is beautiful, that is why i come home every year, got to get energize by the tranquility of my country. No two and three courses of food, man give me a braf fig with the fresh morning catch [maquio, cooleeywe] and i good to go. nice hearing we are featured in yahoo. wonderful. Dominican to the bone
THIS IS THE KIND OF POSOTIVE WE NEED
MAY THE GOOD LORD BLESS US ALL THE KEEP THIS BEAUTIFULL COUNTRY OF OURS GOING POSITIVE.
Skerrit that is doing that, he is the best prime minister ever!!!!!
Lovely Dominica, land of the waters and rain forest. So lush and so green. Indeed a paradise.
Isle of beauty, isle of splendour.
beautiful dominica we all as dominican should be very proud of our country no matter what stop creticising each other
We knew this already, but its nice to be recognised by others.
After visits to other countries you can’t help comparing their natural landscape with Dominica’s.
Yes Roseau needs a major refurbishment, but this recognition is not about a particular part of the island, its about Dominica in general.
I know that not every one feels the same about this beautiful island, but trust me, once you have been away and return you appreciate the natural beauty of the island more.
Remember what Dorothy (Wizard of Oz) said ‘There’s no place like home’.
I support that statement . Shatta even beat me to eat. Grandbay, Gutter, Portsmouth and Marigot are the places keeping us from realising our true potential.
Good post shatta!
Listen, I have only visited your beauty island just ONCE, but I know that when I came there the people were absolutely amazing and friendly. The sites were out of this world and I know that I will be coming back real soon.
I’ve been to a lot of islands in the Caribbean. Each one had their own uniqueness, but there is something about Dominica which stands out.
Beautiful place+ wonderful people = Dominica
We welcome you and your family with open hands. Do come again.
Do yo know that God built Dominica for himself? He however has allowed us to use it temproarily. Unfortunately, judging from the way we behave towards each other in God’s land, we have not been very good stewards even when we have done certain good things, to the environment. Others come here and recognize the jewel, the gift, the treasure. Those of us who were privileged to be borne here are too caught up in destroying God’s gift that we do not see the beauty that resides here and potentially among us. We love to see the bad and wallow in doing bad to each other
We can begin to take better care of God’s Dominica by starting to take care of ourselves – how we relate with each other is part of our stewardship responsibility. Love each other as we love ourselves and aim to love each other as God loves us.
God bless Dominica.
You’re right on this one….your comment says it all…..for the truth shall be told..
Best Country in the world
To The World.!!!!!!!!
that person is an a%^? Ignor Ignor
why u Dominican bring down your country and so many other people will kill to have what you guys have there, you dont see the other caribbean people coming in and making it they home soon you have to look to find true born dominican love your country!!!!!!!! stand up for your country!!!!!!!!!!
that is very true
Lovely Dominica!
Dear Shatta:
As a fellow Dominican whose heart swells with joy when I meet another Dominican in my travels or when I get good news about my beloved island, I am appalled at your repugnant statement. It is not your fault. I understand that people who are not mentally well tend to belittle others in order to feel secure in their own dark little corners. If you are willing, I have a couple of friends who are psychotherapists. They will work with you for free. They will even come to your dark little corner to work with you. Don’t worry. They have flashlights. They will find you.
This is from our national anthem:
We must prosper! Sound the call,
In which everyone rejoices,
“All for Each and Each for All.
I LOVE U DOMINICA
Well its a good idea to turn our attention to tourist after all
Shatta…boy i know the grandbay people would let you have it. Remember it’s part of DA good or bad and the outsiders that had no idea about grandbay is going to start asking. Lets promote Da it’s our home sweeet home. I have never been to grandbay but i must make the trip when i go to DA in July for the Cricket.
dats my home village…i’m loving the veiw…very beautiful indeed
while i commend the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism and discover dominica for successful promotion of Dominica as a nature island thus far, i think there needs to be a collaborative effort by the authorities to keep the city clean, lets cover the gutters in the city, this place smeels too much, in my travels this is the only city that smells, this mayor must address that smell in the city, its a shame. see no need why the executive director of discover dominica must meet with the mayor to discuss the situation in the city, it is clear that this mayor is not doing his job and Mr piper must get on with addressing matters that are more important to make our nature isle be known out there, Dominica needs men of action in getting things done not those political hacks like the mayor who is asleep
Yep! Trust me Roseau is not no city…. Have you visited other cities in the Caribbean? It is time for the Government to stop talking and act. It is a shame to tell someone this is our city. what have we become a musuem? The land is blessed yes and Dominica is a very beautiful country, just looking at the length and breath of the Island anyone can see that this is beauty. but we cannot just sit and say we tropical we need to get more jobs in the country, more night life, more malls and parks and factories, let’s make breadfruit drink and get our name on the market let us use the land let us not only be known as a tropical destination but a very developed nation where all for each and each for all is priority.
lovely dominica
Ya…I from Possie, lived in and LOVE Grandbay but go dere an make your drug dealings then when they go bad blame the place.
Shatta, I have read between de lines of all your postings and I can tell… you need to stay away from drug and gun deals! They will eventually go bad or Sout dealers will make it go bad for you. You should have known better…Truss me.
stop putting possie pple in your nonsense. What the hell you saying there have to do with the article. Just smile and be happy that Dominica is so highly recognised. Come on, give the Grandbay people a break! Why they gotta be a part of everything these days?
My apologies ‘possie pple’, it was meant to be a response to an off color comment/statement made by one Idiot named ‘Shatta’ who earlier took a dump on DNO. Just scroll down a bit you’ll find it and understand. Sorry again.
YES SIRRRRR! No surprise there. The world is now discovering what we Dominicans all know to be true.
that is such great news for DA.. It seems DA is getting a lot of of international recognition lately..
We the citizens should do our best and behave ourselves in a manner that will attract tourists to come to our shores..We should welcome visitors and treat them with respect..
A note to the government of DA: “we need to start seeing commercials on TV about DA ” we see Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia..we need to start seeing DA, so more people will know about our beautiful nature island.. We do not have the white sandy beaches, but we have the rain forest, sulphur springs, waterfalls, boiling lake, whale watching..There are many people in this world who love adventure and we if we let them know what we have to offer, they will come to our shores..
Television is one of the most effective and fastest way of advertising and i believe the government should seriously look into that..
In addition, sponsor some US game shows so that the winners will win a trip to Dominica, liaise with some reality tv show so they can film a segment in Dominica…Go out and reach out to the market. Then the market will reach out to us.
what more can i say then ………..WELCOME TO DOMINICA,NATURE ISLAND OF THE CARIBBEAN.
****** MAN I LOVE THIS PLACE *******
why dno like to press some post and let sh*& through
Thats Great!!!!!!!!!! I love you Dominica!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This recognition is wonderful confirmation of the way many Dominicans feel about our native land. It is so sad that the challenges, pressure and stress of our daily lives conspire to prevent us from taking a little time out to appreciate and enjoy this beautiful natural treasure that God has given us the lovely pleasure of calling home. Ironically, the greatest appreciation for this gem of ours may come from foreign strangers and visitors.
Ultimately though, I know we will continue to have both subtle and not so subtle differences of opinions on various articles posted on DNO. However, this post is one of those instances where you will find that almost all DNO readers and Dominicans at large stand united in positive agreement.
I knew that…
Hooray waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy Good Good
Naturally Dominica should get recognition! Anytime it comes to anything bout tropical destination, then Dominica has it locked down!
Proud to be Dominican!
All hail the Nature Isle!
Well said and I too is a very proud native of DOMINICA,and we as a people just have to do all in our power to make sure the Nature Island remains beautifull because I have a feeling a lot more visitors will be coming to our shore .
Good news of DOMINICA.
if we remove ,or should i say bomb grandbay to peices in dominica we will be the most beautiful counrty or place in the world
strupesssss.
It’s people like you shatta that takes the beauty away from Dominica. We all know this country itself is beautiful but people like you spoils such beauty by opening your mouth.
Sounds like some poor soul has not gotten enough attention, hugs or love in his / her life. Remember though that God loves us all unconditionally……..that means you too!
IDIOT is your first and LAST name!!!!!!!
Seriously? How about we just deport you and send you to Libya, then DA would be an even greater place. What an ignorant statement. It’s people like you who bring shame to our island.
Boy I am not from grandbay , but helas!! grandbay is part of Dominica and if you do not like the entire country how can ou say u love Dominica. Stop making a fool of yourself on DNO and maybe elsewhere. What happen a Grandbay person moved out with your partner? gwo pwel that doing you that man!!
I am not from Grand Bay but I will say beyond any shadow of a doubt, this is indeed one of the most asinine statements I have ever read on DNO, or any online newspaper or blog. You ought to be ashamed “shatta”
Shatta, boy you are a sad excuse for bad behavour, you can’t cut off your legs and expect to stand, my friend.
but why DNO posting them senseless comments there nuh? it always says that the post is awaiting moderation. That should not have been posted!!
My sentiments exactly.
THATS A JOKE
your one ignorant idiot you damn coward.
@Shatta:
Those who gave you H-E-L-L for writing such an unbecoming comment are accurate. You deserve it. How could you ever have considered making such a statement? What do you have against Grand Bay? The next time you comment on this Website make it sensible, will you?
The picture and article pertaining to our beautiful island of Dominica is a compliment to Dominicans. Your comment is out-of-place and makes no sense whatsoever. You sound like one bitter person who lacks a heart of gold – of love.
It is time to ask Our Lord Jesus Christ forgiveness for your derogatory words which are unChristian-like. Worship, prayer, penance and sacrifice will assist you to mellow your heart and make you a loving person.
Your comment should never have been allowed to be posted on this Website. In fact, if you continue with such degrading comments, you should be prohibited from commenting.
Furthermore, you act as though you are a perfect person and where you were born and live is the best place. Wrong!
I know some Grand Bay people. People are people, whatever country, town or village they are from. I would never make such a statement. I have not visited Grand Bay. I hope on my next visit to D/ca I will do so.
May God bless and grace you with a clean heart and mind and obviously what comes out of your mouth. You are also in dire need of His mortal (moral) and spiritual enlightenment.
Listen Shatta, Shitti? whatever your name. I am breaking my usual posting etiquette and protocol and making this personal since my father’s family hail from Grandbay. If you are somehow mentally disturbed, I will still pray for you. Your deranged and lunatic comments seem to suggest that you might have steered at the super moon a bit too long the other night. If indeed you are perfectly sane then you need to crawl back under the filthy rock from which you came. Otherwise, it is very important that you always take your medication to avoid being seen as the jack-ass that you aspire to be.
