Douglas applauds formation of new tourism association

Ian Douglas

A new Community Tourism Association for Dominica is expected to provide employment opportunities in that area.

Tourism Minister Ian Douglas says the new association will also help alleviate poverty.

Douglas told the official launching at the Geneva grounds in Grandbay on Thursday evening that the community should now focus on ways for neighboring communities to work together.

“We are proud to be fashioning an approach that will further authenticate the Dominican experience to our many visitors and friends to the nature island. Community based tourism provides one of the best means of giving our stay over and cruise visitors a true nature island experience. We must give them a true authentic nature island experience,” he said.

Douglas said communities should also remain committed to helping each other as well.

“We are not competing with each other. We are helping each other. Let us strengthen each other. I want us to move our community based tourism to higher standards of community service and that must remain key in the service providers minds at all times,” he added.
