John condemns Salisbury tourist attack

Hector John

The parliamentary representative for the Salisbury constituency, Hector John, has condemned the recent attack on a tourist couple who were badly beaten up by unknown assailants.

On Saturday two guests of the Tamarind Tree Hotel in Salisbury were brutally attacked and robbed, while on their way back from Salisbury Beach.

The two were reported to be halfway up the well-lit access road to the hotel when they were attacked from behind by two men who beat them “with a stone and a large block of tarish”, according to the owners of the Tamarind Tree Hotel.

In a statement Monday on the matter, John, the parliamentary opposition leader, said such an attack was harmful to both his constituency and the wider Dominican community.

“Any attack on the tourist industry anywhere in Dominica is serious and we shouldn’t take it lightly. And that is why the community of Salisbury condemn what transpired” he told Dominica News Online.

He said villagers were working with the police in an attempt to bring the perpetrators to justice.

According to John the police have a few leads, and he is optimistic that the individuals who committed the crime “will be apprehended as soon as possible”.

He also dismissed claims that Salisbury was today a crime infested area.

The parliamentary representative said the problem was one affecting not only Salisbury but the country in general.

“Dominica is still the nice loving country” John said, explaining that tourists are very welcome and shouldn’t be put off by isolated incidents that the authorities were keen to bring under control.

Hi Tiny I wonder where did your religion come from cause it seems that you donot know the history of your church. as the word Christian came from Christ and he came for the sinners all of them and mind you atholic is not a religion but Christianity is. So grow up and respect this Catholic Land! “Dominica” the land of the Lord.

Where have the parl reps (including Earl Williams) been when for years the locals have been robbed blind by these thieves? They now noticed that there is a problem?

Spags, put the good folks of Bawi to work tirelessly until this one is solved. Dont let that one dispicable incident go because Bawie is one of the nicest villages in Dca and you cannot sleep on this one. Canvass the village for help and mobilize every man, woman and child in an effort to catch those sorry perpetrators.

Selective justice in Dominica will only lead to more crime. The police should be left out of politics. they should be working to solve crime from the top to bottom.

I agree with the Salisbury Rep., these criminals should be apprehended as soon as possible. Dominicans should not allow criminals to take over their country. We do not want to see Dominica become Jamaica, Trinidad, St. Croix or St. Thomas at all. People should talk and not be afraid to report these bad behaviors, which destroys any community. Salisbury has been well known as a family oriented community and we would like it to remain that way. So sell them out my people. Do not be afraid!!

Why is Honourable Hector John suddenly under attack? Unlike many of you HECTOR is far more patriotic. Most of you are LABOURITES first and Dominicans 2nd. This is a man whom whether you like his political stance or not has taken pride in promoting Dominica and making many meaningful contributions from youth to the development and preservation of community and culture.

Dominicans you all must learn to seperate political party affiliation from country and personality. Ignorance and hatred has gone awry in Dominica hence the increase in criminal activity. We have people committing violent and vicious acts on locals and tourist alike and instead of speaking in a uniformed voice we’re digging into Hector John. Parents are the first diciplinarians where are they, they sow rotten seeds and out of their spoils these weeds grow into in trees of distruction, destroying other thriving crops.

Mr Hector John I want to share your view, but wondering if is because of your contutiency you condemn the action cause as a concern Dominican I have always condemn those kind of behaviour esspecially on our visitors that has been happening in recent times and have never heard you speak against them even when your supporters make remarks condemning the government instead. As the leader of the opposition you have a responsibility to speak when have to against those action and even condemn those that try to condon the behaviour by blamning the government because they does not support them.Once again i agree with you.

and i do not mean Catholics….Catholics are not christian….there are a few born again in the congregation but the church of itself is a cult…Catholics ( Spanish inquisitions)were the ones responsible for killing Christians…

      • Proud Roman Catholic
        February 13, 2012

Christianity has nothing to do with religion, it is your heart and your relationship with God. You protestants like to hit Catholics, concentrate on ur church, NOT catholic. I tell u there will be many surprises in heaven. Check ur Bible, NOT the KING JAMES version and tell me what is CHRISTIANITY. U all spend so much time talking about Catholics that is why ur pastors fail u all MISERABLY. Note: I am a PROUD ROMAN CATHOLIC CHRISTIAN.

      • paracme
        February 13, 2012

If Roman Catholics are not Christians then there were no Christians for more than a thousand years after Christ. Protestantism is only about five centuries old, and Evangelicals, even defined very broadly, go back no further than ‘great awakenings’ of two centuries ago. I’m a Unitarian belonging to neither group, but from what I can see the Catholics are closer to Jesus than many Evangelicals, who seem to think religion is like decoding complicated secret messages. Jesus preached a gospel of charity and love, of self sacrifice, not some selfish goal of saving yourself from a doom that I don’t believe the creator would inflict on his children. It’s not what you say that brings you closer to God, it’s what you do.
