Local hikers complete third day of Waitukubuli Nature Trail today

A section of the WNT

Jerry Brisbane and Clement Rabess are now in the third day of their quest to complete the Waitikubuli Nature Trail (WNT), which they started on Saturday Morning.

They should end up at Base Camp near Marigot by the end of today.

Tomorrow they will be going down the east coast and plan to end up in the heights of Salisbury by the end of the day.

The Waitukubuli Nature Trail, conceived by the Waitukubuli Ecological Foundation, is a 115 mile trail traversing the length of Dominica and displays the natural beauty that the island is known for. Though the trail is scheduled to be officially completed at year’s end, all segments are presently in a state of hiking readiness.

The seven day adventure is intended to promote Dominica’s newest tourist product, create and encourage a sense of ownership within local communities and to increase the numbers of local users and hikers.

The intention of the WNT is for hikers and users to immerse themselves in the natural environment of Dominica and explore its fauna, its flora, experience its local lifestyle, culture and people.

This activity will initiate a perpetual challenge for hikers to complete the trail in ever shorter time periods.

Great news. Thanks for the follow up on the hike’s progress. DNO, can we not drop the Local in the headline: “Local hikers complete third day of Waitukubuli Nature Trail today”…..after all, this is local news and local Dominicans are as much hikers as are foreigners.

Best wishes for a successful hike, I do hope that you cover all 14 segments. It would be interesting if you would chronicle this hike, to include a picture gallery, in order to help promote this very important touism product and to encourage potential hikers to follow in your foot steps.

  10. Are you sure?
    March 14, 2011

Are you sure it’s not First Camp? There is no Base Camp. Maybe they should clarify and say which Segment they intend to complete or have completed, so that those of us following them who are familiar with the Trail can get a more precise location? Thanks!

I agree. Give segment numbers so we will know where they are on the Waitukubuli Trail map. This is interesting anyway.

This is the level of illiteracy we have in Dominica, thats why people like Dr. Dublin instead of protecting his personnel interest must go out their and do Dominica a favour and educate the Dominica people to stop this foolishness.
