On Friday, April 17, 2015, MV Carnival Liberty of Carnival Cruise Line (CCL) made an unscheduled call to Dominica.
This is the second unscheduled call the CCL vessel has made to Dominica within one (1) week.
With the view of enhancing visitors experience and improving ambience, Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) provided cultural entertainment at the port of entry and specific Tourist sites.
Over the past years, DDA has been in constant dialogue with CCL cruise executives. This is all in an effort for the reinstatement of CCL calls to the island.
DDA therefore makes an urgent plea to all tourism stakeholders to ensure that the expectations of passengers & crew of the Carnival Liberty are met and exceeded and that standards are maintained in the delivery of service.
This will result in the visitors giving good ratings to the island which will ultimately influence the Ship’s decision to return to the island for future calls.
Cruise tourism is a major component of Dominica’s growing tourism sector. During the 2013/2014 cruise season, there were one hundred and eighty-eight (188) calls which translated into 282,404 passengers.
Approximately, 191 cruise ships are expected to call to Dominica during the 2014/2015 season, bringing 292,210 visitors to the island.
I am aware most cruise ships have approximately 4,000 to 5,000 passengers. If this one has approximately 2,000, it must be a very small one.
Who has time to research that about a ship unless they are interested in the ship and have nothing important to do with their time.
Forgot to mention besides Campbell and Jerry, a shout out to the wonderful Sarah who works at the market in front of where carnival liberty docked Friday April 17, 2015. We made good bargains with Sarah and a great big hug from her. Will see you soon too.Sarah you are our girl
You’ll are just being lied too…
Since I lived and worked in St.Maarten, we were told back then when CCL pulled of Dominica that DA has nothing much to offer to the tourist. And so it has nothing to do with harassing of the tourist.
Trust me,nothing at all…
I will state, it is a beautiful ship. All such ships, whether scheduled or unscheduled, are to be welcomed by the DDA. They must be prepared for unscheduled visits.
I would think, generally, it has approximately 4,000 to 5,000 passengers, a little more or probably less.
A simple search of the web would have told you the following FACTS about this ship.
Guest capacity 2,974 + 1,160 crew.
what was the reason for the unscheduled call?…… could it be because they were not able to dock elsewhere where they were scheduled to go?, Is it because they are just checking us out to see? Come on reporters we need to do better than this and start to be more explorative/investigative in our reporting.
Thank you
Are the DDA really serious? I heard this on the news and reading here…..urgent plea to stakeholders ??
Now? What happened all season? Does DDA staff walk around the Bayfront area outside the barriers? In the side lanes, Royal bank, Dupigny areas? Experience the harassment of the tourists? The slum that is the vendors? Blocking pathways and clothes hanging so you can’t pass without things on your head……vagrants….beggars. Rude taxi men. Oh come on DDA and min of Tourism. It’s a sad state of affairs and you have no clue the things done and said on an average cruise day. No amount of training can change some of those taxi men, embarrassing the country. I wonder how much freeness you all offered Carnival so they call here, see how they ups and pull out of st Kitts, question is Why?
Wow..its amazing how u love you country..cant imgine the amount of hate and resentment u leep for yourself. Whats your agenda? Why? DNO..that comment has no right to be obn display under this story. Cruise passengers come here for information about the Island.. let them come and experience Dominica..without this sordid prejudice.
I was on Carnival Liberty last week that stopped in Dca because of strong winds near St Kitts. One complain i heard cruisers complain about was the need for a visible Dominica Tourist Board both outside the boat as that of
other islands visited, I knew info was available in the museum across the street, but the shutters/door was blocking the sign. However Roseau looked beautiful and colorful from above. Happy to see a variety of restaurants and bars in Roseau now.
Of course, the visit by the Carnival Liberty is very welcome but we should not read too much in this. Its 7 day schedule of the Eastern Caribbean calls for it to visit St. Kitts on fridays but because of weather conditions the boat was deemed unable to dock at that island’s Port Zante. and as a precaution a decision was made to divert to Dominica.St. Kitt’s loss is our gain but we are grateful.
