Rosalie Bay Resort  and Secret Bay Resort have earned the distinction of being ranked among the best intimate Caribbean hotels of 2011 by Travel and Leisure Magazine.

Rosalie Bay Resort came out nine of the top 11 hotels surveyed by the magazine, while Secret Bay was ranked 10.

Rosalie Bay Resort was described as a ‘microcosm’ of Dominica and ‘one of the world’s few carbon-negative resorts,’according to the magazine’s website.

On its own website, Rosalie Bay Resort said its mission is three fold: protect the local environment, empower local residents by boosting their livelihoods and showcase the beauty of Dominica to the outside world by developing a world class nature resort.

Secret Bay was described as a resort “which seems to rise out of the bush” with two secluded beach and a sea cave and “a perfect reason not to leave the property.”

The resort boasts itself as “a boutique hotel experience and the very best that Dominica has to offer: fresh local organic food, endless adventures on your doorstep and healthy rejuvenating living in harmony with nature.”

Congrats to these hotels which carefully chose their locations to reflect the best of Dominica’s nature and spectacular views from each room. You cannot compare town hotels with country hotels. They are two different products.

Sad to see in the advertisement section on this site that there is a notice from AID Bank that Athie Martin’s Exotica is going to be auctioned off by the High Court this coming week. (Four and a half acres of land at Gomier, Giraudel). Some would say that he is so busy telling government how to run the country that he has neglected running his own business. Eh Las!

    LUCLU, positive writing.

Don’t worry about the Dominicans who only think of negatives about our lovely Dominica.

Rosalie is very Beautiful, but the there are others that are very comfortable.

We Dominicans too like to bring down our own.

    Congratulations on Dominica achievement.

Ture that : these hotels are nice, but these folks pay for their ads. That’s the name of the game,
    Business business paid business.

Hotels may accommodate the writers for free or at cheap but that does not ensure them a spot on these types of lists, if that was so the lists would not exist as so many properties in and out of Dominica do this. So be sure to understand the travel writing business when you put your comments out there.

        December 3, 2011

        nah you do not understand.

These list are made up by marketing companies. Both Rosalie bay AND Secret bay have only been open to public for 5 months yet they get all this attention. They use the same marketing company is all. the whole media world is becoming one big scam … so take with salt.

You should see their reviews on Tripadvisor 20 each …. only 5 months and 20 each … and of course all 5 star … what kind of guests write like that?

        The owners of course.

While I am happy for the exposure, the aticle states and I quote ‘Until now there was no decent place to stay, but the opening of Rosalie Bay changes all that.’ Really? What happen to Sutton Place, Fort Young, Garraway, Jungle Bay? I can admit while not being 5 star they certainly can at the very least be classed as ‘decent’. Positive spin on it all publicity, good or bad, is publicity!

i totally agree with u…no decent place to stay????? hmmmmmm

Yah at this stage of their existence Sutton Place or Garraway are just making decent. Whatever star they had before they have dropped off seriously over the last 10 yrs. That is what no consistent flow of business will do to a hotel. I do feel sorry for the owners …investing in Dominica is a very risky thing to do… especially when government is reckless and partisan with the support they can provide.

I can’t speak to Fort Young service and ambiance… I have never stayed there and when the others do not get business they seem to get. All due to party politics again. Fort Young may be doing better also because the Nassiefs have a bit more wealth on which to fall back on. than those other two family who own Garraway and Sutton.

Oh BTW who owns these two hotels mention in the article.

      But is so it go.

Really? On several occassions I have been forced to relocate my guests ! No water in toilet, creaking beds, Stucked-up rooms, Electrical problems in AC units and lamps, and the list goes on.
      Thats the truth.

Congrats to the owners of the Rosalie Bay Resort.

DNO Admin, please note that Secret Bay (in Portsmouth, Dominica) is also included in the ranking and the category is the best intimate Caribbean hotels, which is different from the best Caribbean hotels.
