Tourism should benefit both locals and travelers – Tourism Association ChairmanDominica News Online - Friday, June 4th, 2010 at 10:09 AM
Chairperson of the Dominica Community Tourism Association Task Force Gilles Carbon says stakeholders in the sector should look at failures as the pathways to success.
She says created with all the good intentions, community based tourism projects are abandoned for some reason or another.
Carbon was at the time addressing the official launching of the Dominica Community Tourism Association.
“Development agencies have until recently been unequipped with the development or promotion of community tourism initiatives. Sometimes too often marketing experts advise the community to raise their prices to rates that tourist do not want to pay,” she said.
Successful community based tourism succeeds when it achieves mutual benefits for locals and travelers, she added.
Meantime Chairman of the Grandbay Village Council Willie Fevriere says the new initiative will make it easier for stakeholders to address their problems.
