Tourism smartphone app for Dominica

A local web development company on Tuesday is launching the first ever mobile app dedicated to Dominica’s tourism product.

The  ‘Destination Dominica’ app is a smartphone application that showcases Dominica. Drawing upon the comprehensive database that powers the popular Visit-Dominica.com website, the app allows users to quickly find what they what to do in Dominica.

“The app is targeted at visitors currently on island or people knowing they’re coming to Dominica,” Steve McCabe CEO of Delphis Ltd, the company behind the app, said “As such, the aim is on letting people quickly and easily find what they want in Dominica, be it a place to eat or stay, or something to do.”

He went on to say that there is a focus on ease of use, and of letting people discover what’s around them.

“For example we make extensive use of Google Maps to show users where attractions and local businesses are located,” McCabe said.

The app is presently on the Android platform only but an Iphone version will be out in a few months, according to the developer.

Steve, Congratulations… This is the kind of innovation and ingenuity that we want coming from Dominica. On time to come, hopefully we can have a tech incubator on island where folks like Steve can help up & coming Dominican techies to launch the next Facebook… or better.

This comment is not fair. I visited Dominica in March and was treated very well by many many Dominicans. There are always a few bad apples – what country does not have them? – but my experience was very positive on the whole and I will return to the beautiful island and friendly people for sure!
