Twenty Calypsonians will take to the stage tonight to compete in the 2016 calypso semifinal competition, as they vie for a place in the final to battle three-time Calypso King, Gregory “Karessah” Riviere.
They are; Sye, Observer, Checko, Charis D, Shadow Flow, Dice, Beno, Lugars, Checker, Picky, Daddy Chess, Webb, Sting Ray, Boople, Jama B, Soul Puss, Bobb, Black Diamond, and newcomers Earl White Jr., and Janae Jackson.
President of the Dominica Calypso Association (DCA), Deryck “Hunter” St Rose, told Dominica News Online (DNO), in an interview that preparations for the event are going “pretty good”.
“We have twenty artistes who are ready to give it all they got because from that twenty we are going to be choosing only nine to meet the reigning King who is Karessah,” he said. “So guys are going to come out there blazing, because everybody think they have a chance to make it to the finals…”
St Rose encourages fans to turn out in large numbers to support the artistes.
“It’s going to be a show to watch, a show to witness yourself,” St Rose stated. “Don’t let anybody tell you about the show you got to be there to see what will transpire.”
Meantime he stated that this Calypso season is a very exciting one, “although it’s a short season, the songs are really good and the artistes are working hard to give the people their money’s worth…”
The show will take place at the Newtown Savannah from 8:30 pm
The entry price is $35.
DNO joins ComeSeeTv to stream the event live.
Even though we are in the middle of the carnival season and many Dominicans have put their politics behind them at least for a while, the likes of Daryle , Cecil and Stowe are still waving their red flags. Skeriit once said mighty DBS was his favorite calyponian, that is the man’s choice. Tony also commented that Dice was Aaron’s poppet. Because their master loves mighty DBS and they love their PM, for likes of Cecil and the one time press secretary to put Dice in the class of mighty DBS is beyond politics, it is calypso madness, someone please call Dr. Charma. Those of us who heard them fellers with their political ranting and raging on DBS radio on Saturday did not believe it was Dice who was on stage, but Mr. Linton. Everyone in the park whether UWP or Labor went wild after Dice’s performance, but as far as them fellers were concerned, Dice’s song was rubbish. Thank God, they were not judges.
Go Janae, As promised when I met you in D/CA last christmas, I will be in your corner.
