Dominican police have asked for help from Martiniquan authorities in their search for two young men from Pointe Michel who are missing at sea.
According to police reports, Dylan Hypolite and Elisha Hill left Pointe Michel at 10pm on Wednesday August 1, 2012 on a 16 foot open keel boat with a 40 horse power Yamaha engine, and have not returned since.
Reports are that the boat, registration # J7031PTM, belongs to Denison Etienne also of Pointe Michel.
Etienne told police that the men borrowed his boat to go on a fishing trip and he received a call from Hill the following day, Thursday August 2, at about 2pm, informing him that “they (Hill and Hypolite) had encountered engine problems and were drifting towards Martinique.”
Ettienne said he tried, later that day, to call the missing men on a cell phone which Hill was carrying but said he had so far received “no response” from them.
While Dominican police continue their efforts to find the missing men, information obtained by DNO reveals that questions are being asked in the community as to whether it was really a fishing trip that prompted the young men to undertake their late night journey. However, they will first have to be found, hopefully alive and well, before those questions can be addressed.

Stop the hypocrisy. We all know they did not go fishing. The boat owner’s story makes NO SENSE. ow can you borrow someone your boat on Wednesday and Thursday morning no sign of your boat and you yet to do anything. You say you got a call on Thursday at 2 pm and stating they had engine problem etc etc and you yet to help you yet to call coast guard or police. why tell us why. you wait for till later to call them back and then you going out with your pardner in crime boat. you yet to call police nor coast guard why tell us why. what about the other boat who went out with them the person and boat came back why no mention of this in your story. why tell us why. why is only on friday evening one of the parents got to know that their son missing. why you and your pardners in crime didnt go tell the woman her son missing. we want answers. what are the authoristies doing about the boat owner and the others we want answers
It’s so rediculous everytime these guys are missing we say they went on a fishing expedition and most times we are wrong. Are these guys fishermen? The owner of the boat needs to be questioned thoroughly. The person asking about Coast Guard, why do you want to interogate the Coast Guard Officials, people risk their lives in certain activities and u want to question Coast Guard. The men went out at 10pm and the boat owner says he got a call from them at 2pm. This means they were out for approximately 14 hours, Ki sa yous ta kar fe an le lamiere con sar. Say sort nous sort con sar Dominique. Things are rough boat owners renting their boat to people doing their illegal business. I hope they are found alive. Our people are not learning the lessons from these misterious expeditions. Work hard for what you want. “By thy sweat of your brow man shall eat bread”. We are sitting by the road in the day and at night we out on missions of no return, when we return illegally successfully we buying SUV, building house with no bank loans, destroying people children in the process, there becomes a time when the tears of the parents of the destroyed children will fall upon us. That being said, I would be very happy if the young men would be home safely.
boy Vano I doh know what to say I feel your pain girlfriend… Dylan boy u should think that through eh pal weh boy
my prayers go out to the Hypolite family in trafalgar, his mom Mrs. Toussaint and all other family and friends of Dylan and Elisha….we pray for their safe return…
If they went fishing i wish they will be back home safe but if it was for the wite fish, lord for give me, i have no love for the wite fish dealers be cuz when i see the state of my brothers and sisters in the caribbean be cuz of this dedly wite fish from south America so if god would give me the power to put these wicked people some where i would put them in hell.
Some years ago some Dominicans guys had the same problem on their way back to DA from Martinique, the boat went adrift for many days some died and two were rescued somewhere in Miami
I just hope that them guys was not involved in any illegal activities
if i am not mistaken some years ago the same happened to two other guys one from that same village and another from the neighbouring village of Loubiere, not forgetting the many others guys from all over
Something is definitely wrong with this picture i just cannot comprehend it yet their are now questions to be answered from the boat owner, something just ain’t right
The catch of fish was so heavy that it “”shalveway” the boat.
I wonder if is fishing they when out to do. Why
would they leave their homes at 10pm risk their
to go fishing? Frankly speaking that was more
than fishing
clearly people who say fishing at 10pm doesn’t know about fishing. they probably went to pick up fish pots to set again as alot of fishermen here do and i did it many times before, so to try and jump to conclussions of those negative types is rubbish. i hope they are found alive.
So many things about this leaves more questions than answers. For instance, if the engine is no longer working and you are drifting towards Martinique, why call the boat owner from your cell phone in the middle of now where? Shouldn’t you be attempting to reach the police to ask for help? And why did the boat owner not IMMEDIATELY notify the authorities so that a search and rescue could be mounted? So many questions.
What is wrong with going fishing at 10PM?
Plenty is wrong with this time, not only the time but also the weather was not promising to go out fishing at that time, all i can say is that there is more to this sager
The boat owner need to be question, since he was the one them guys contacted informing him that they were facing difficulties,
Need some answers, why he did not notify the authorities as soon as he received the call from the guys?. somethings look fishy with this incident
I do hope that they were rescued, my heart goes out to the family
‘saga’. Time will tell if they are OK or not. I hope they are.
nothing the good thing is just that you must have are back up for if you dont get fish the good thing about you all is the ones that dont go to school are the same ones wanting to full people that go to school now thay are out at sea by there self lol its like you was waiting on some green fish or the next fish lol keep waiting
How many searches did the coast guard conduct?
How organized and thorough were the searches?
Did they ask international bodies to get invovled in the search?
How often did the coast guard contact the grieving families to update them on the searches done?
I would like these questions answered please.
Why waste their time and our tax money? Do you know the boat owner? I really wonder if they asked him to borrow the boat or wheter he sent them fishing in this rough sea.
I pray that they return home to their family.
Also in this day and age we’re in at least they should have a compass which would help the authority on their location not just a cell phone,,they said that they were drifting towards Martinique, but from what direction (north, south, east, etc)havin a compass really helps out well in time like these.
real fishermen would know and have their compass.10pm?hmmmph that fishing trip sounds real fishy.
It is only a cycle. lives must be lost in order that a few live their selfish lives. May God have mercy on them and all the “Paros” who walk our streets.
people do go fishing at night but stick to the coast line incase of any difficulty with engine they can swim ashore , or u take ur line an go on the beach . them two young man fishing trip a little suspicious however , jope that they are found alive an well. then they will ans the questions everyone is hoping to get an ans to
10 pm is a very good time to go fishing bc of currents n so on water temperature etc.. but finish men are constantly advised to have equipment such as nets, rods, gps, flares, life jackets, fishing rods, bouyes, portable water, an extra charged battery for cell phone or flash lights. a tin of condense milk one makesson and two condoms.. an extra beedon of gas is a must….
all fisher me take note…
hope they are found in one peace………. its hard hear your son or daughter is missing. wow
‘piece’. If they are found, hope they will be at ‘peace.’
Boy, you like any teacher there this afternoon lol:
Forget about whether they went fishing or not the point is two men are out in the waters missing and i think that should be the concern right now not the time and not the purpose of why they went out on the waters. I pray they are found safely and my thoughts and prayers goes out to the family
True True,
Very well, but it would appear these guys purposefully put themselves in harm’s way, with the impending storm and all last week. Sometimes we must not take people happiness and make our sorrows.
All the same, i wish a safe return for the guys.
Reader your question is are good question
who are they tryin to fool ? Really, any fisherman would knw that the don’t go out to fish, when there is a storm watch for the island they are in….
who are they tryinf to fool?
still my prayers go out to the family and frenz…..
storm watch wuz cancelled
there was no storm watch when they went.. stom was thursdat nite.. they went wednesday
So it was storm warning then????
The fishing explanation sounds a tad bit “fishy” (pun intended). I pray that these gentlemen are found alive but we have seen these sort of occurrences in the past and in most cases they do not end well.
Ten pm is no strange time to go fishing if u studying currents and the time of the moon rising, according to the almanac. But i strongly doubt these guys knew anything of such.Still we hope and pray they are ok maybe in the hands of french customs eh.
I grew up all my life involved in fishing. my father was a fisherman and no once did he wake up in the night and go fishing.so don’t come and give me this 10pm they went fishing story.
is makes it more difficult to find people when the search is based on lies. if they guys are missing give the right information so a proper search can be done. we like to cover up to much and honestly this coverup makes absolutely no sense.
Fishing at 10Pm?
Fishing for what?
10PM to go fishing. Zor pas las marti
all of allu just running up allu mouth about fishing, fishing, fishing, where d real fishermen out there? tell me allu never go out to fish around time!! i do it already stop jumping into conclusions….i just hope that they are safe…
well i would think if they go fishing by 10pm ,they should be back before the sun come up .maybe thats what they was hoping to do .but the call at 2pm is way past expiration time to come home .
My prays and thoughts are my my families and the other guys families Elishia is my newphew regardless of what you all want to say ,we all have children we never there future we need to pray for one other, and stop the gossipping. may god bring them bach safely.

I hope that they are safe….that cell phone should be seized by he police to find out if those calls were actually made and recived. I guess them numbers will be deleted and call information removed. D other guye didnt have cell phone ? who else were called or received calls? WE TO GOOD IN DOMINICA WEE!!!!!
ANY ways I HOPE AND PRAY THAT THEY ARE SAFE !!!!!!
DNO PRAY FOR DOMINICA EHHH !
So according to some ppl on here only day time ppl go fishing. Smh. The Person who wrote this news article is an idiot.2 ppl missing and that’s what they write. Sensational news that’s all that interest them. Couldn’t leave it at 2 young men missing.
So why ppl should not know what and where they might have been going? It is fishy you making it sound like they have some thing to hide, so of us like covering up things to much, if they were on the straight and narrow they shouldn’t have a thing to worry about, simple as that.
Fishing at 10 pm in the midst of an impending storm? I hope they are found safe.
I guess they would have to tell us whether it was RED DISH, GREEN FISH or RED FISH they went to catch. They reported that they were drifting towards Martinique at 2:00 pm Thursday…. On way back hom efrom the FISHING trip? The boat owner, as well, will have some serious questions to answer. Hope the YOUNG FISHERMEN are alive and well.
888whether it was RED FISH, GREEN FISH or WHITE FISH they went to catch…
and now that in the news since last week and that not important for us to know then
It is news now because it is just reaching the public. Most of the time these things happen and people keep it a secret for reasons only they know.
They go to the police only when push come to shove.
SMH
Hmmmm,…..”fishing trip,”……awah!
The reality of this reflects the disregard of protocols established by the Fisheries Division where only certified fishermen who are registered as the crew to a particular vessel are the ones who can commandeer the vessel. The registered owner should be brought before the court and punished in an effort to get the message out to the individuals who attend the fishermans training course in which scarce resources are pumped into the program. These individuals merely attend to learn the use of navigational aids and ways in which to enable them to be prosper in the illegal trade
10 O’clock in the night they went fishing? Were’nt the seas still a bit choppy for this activity? What were they hoping to catch? I hope they are safe all the same, but seem to me somebody need to explain a few things away.
