Two Pte. Michel men missing at sea

Dominican police have asked for help from Martiniquan authorities in their search for two young men from Pointe Michel who are missing at sea.

According to police reports, Dylan Hypolite and Elisha Hill left Pointe Michel at 10pm on Wednesday August 1, 2012 on a 16 foot open keel boat with a 40 horse power Yamaha engine, and have not returned since.

Reports are that the boat, registration # J7031PTM, belongs to Denison Etienne also of Pointe Michel.

Etienne told police that the men borrowed his boat to go on a fishing trip and he received a call from Hill the following day, Thursday August 2, at about 2pm, informing him that “they (Hill and Hypolite) had encountered engine problems and were drifting towards Martinique.”

Ettienne said he tried, later that day, to call the missing men on a cell phone which Hill was carrying but said he had so far received “no response” from them.

While Dominican police continue their efforts to find the missing men, information obtained by DNO reveals that questions are being asked in the community as to whether it was really a fishing trip that prompted the young men to undertake their late night journey. However, they will first have to be found, hopefully alive and well, before those questions can be addressed.

Stop the hypocrisy. We all know they did not go fishing. The boat owner’s story makes NO SENSE. ow can you borrow someone your boat on Wednesday and Thursday morning no sign of your boat and you yet to do anything. You say you got a call on Thursday at 2 pm and stating they had engine problem etc etc and you yet to help you yet to call coast guard or police. why tell us why. you wait for till later to call them back and then you going out with your pardner in crime boat. you yet to call police nor coast guard why tell us why. what about the other boat who went out with them the person and boat came back why no mention of this in your story. why tell us why. why is only on friday evening one of the parents got to know that their son missing. why you and your pardners in crime didnt go tell the woman her son missing. we want answers. what are the authoristies doing about the boat owner and the others we want answers

It’s so rediculous everytime these guys are missing we say they went on a fishing expedition and most times we are wrong. Are these guys fishermen? The owner of the boat needs to be questioned thoroughly. The person asking about Coast Guard, why do you want to interogate the Coast Guard Officials, people risk their lives in certain activities and u want to question Coast Guard. The men went out at 10pm and the boat owner says he got a call from them at 2pm. This means they were out for approximately 14 hours, Ki sa yous ta kar fe an le lamiere con sar. Say sort nous sort con sar Dominique. Things are rough boat owners renting their boat to people doing their illegal business. I hope they are found alive. Our people are not learning the lessons from these misterious expeditions. Work hard for what you want. “By thy sweat of your brow man shall eat bread”. We are sitting by the road in the day and at night we out on missions of no return, when we return illegally successfully we buying SUV, building house with no bank loans, destroying people children in the process, there becomes a time when the tears of the parents of the destroyed children will fall upon us. That being said, I would be very happy if the young men would be home safely.

Some years ago some Dominicans guys had the same problem on their way back to DA from Martinique, the boat went adrift for many days some died and two were rescued somewhere in Miami

I just hope that them guys was not involved in any illegal activities

if i am not mistaken some years ago the same happened to two other guys one from that same village and another from the neighbouring village of Loubiere, not forgetting the many others guys from all over

Something is definitely wrong with this picture i just cannot comprehend it yet their are now questions to be answered from the boat owner, something just ain’t right

The catch of fish was so heavy that it “”shalveway” the boat.

I wonder if is fishing they when out to do. Why
would they leave their homes at 10pm risk their
to go fishing? Frankly speaking that was more
    than fishing

  14. hw
    August 6, 2012

clearly people who say fishing at 10pm doesn’t know about fishing. they probably went to pick up fish pots to set again as alot of fishermen here do and i did it many times before, so to try and jump to conclussions of those negative types is rubbish. i hope they are found alive.

So many things about this leaves more questions than answers. For instance, if the engine is no longer working and you are drifting towards Martinique, why call the boat owner from your cell phone in the middle of now where? Shouldn’t you be attempting to reach the police to ask for help? And why did the boat owner not IMMEDIATELY notify the authorities so that a search and rescue could be mounted? So many questions.

Plenty is wrong with this time, not only the time but also the weather was not promising to go out fishing at that time, all i can say is that there is more to this sager

The boat owner need to be question, since he was the one them guys contacted informing him that they were facing difficulties,

Need some answers, why he did not notify the authorities as soon as he received the call from the guys?. somethings look fishy with this incident

I do hope that they were rescued, my heart goes out to the family

    August 6, 2012

How many searches did the coast guard conduct?
How organized and thorough were the searches?
Did they ask international bodies to get invovled in the search?
How often did the coast guard contact the grieving families to update them on the searches done?
I would like these questions answered please.

I pray that they return home to their family.

Also in this day and age we’re in at least they should have a compass which would help the authority on their location not just a cell phone,,they said that they were drifting towards Martinique, but from what direction (north, south, east, etc)havin a compass really helps out well in time like these.

Ten pm is no strange time to go fishing if u studying currents and the time of the moon rising, according to the almanac. But i strongly doubt these guys knew anything of such.Still we hope and pray they are ok maybe in the hands of french customs eh.

I grew up all my life involved in fishing. my father was a fisherman and no once did he wake up in the night and go fishing.so don’t come and give me this 10pm they went fishing story.

is makes it more difficult to find people when the search is based on lies. if they guys are missing give the right information so a proper search can be done. we like to cover up to much and honestly this coverup makes absolutely no sense.

The reality of this reflects the disregard of protocols established by the Fisheries Division where only certified fishermen who are registered as the crew to a particular vessel are the ones who can commandeer the vessel. The registered owner should be brought before the court and punished in an effort to get the message out to the individuals who attend the fishermans training course in which scarce resources are pumped into the program. These individuals merely attend to learn the use of navigational aids and ways in which to enable them to be prosper in the illegal trade
