URGENT: Information Regarding Us Citizens’ Evacuation from Dominica

The U.S. State Department is arranging transport by boat for U.S. citizens evacuating from Roseau, Dominica on the morning of Saturday, September 23.  All U.S. citizens wishing to depart on the vessel should be at the Woodbridge Bay Roseau Port by 9:00 a.m.

Separately, the U.S. military will provide C-130 evacuation flights from Douglas-Charles (Melville) Airport during day light hours on Saturday, September 23.

For U.S. citizens who are injured or otherwise unable to traverse the island, the U.S. military will provide a limited number of helicopter flights from Portsmouth to the Douglas-Charles Airport.  Please make arrangements to arrive at the dean’s building on Ross Medical School’s campus by 9:00 a.m.

The vessel from Roseau will travel from Dominica to St. Lucia.  Military flights will travel to Martinique.

Boarding will be on a first come, first serve basis, with priority given to children, elderly, and persons in need of medical assistance.

Please carry your U.S. passport.

Only service animals will be permitted.

Only one small bag is allowed.

No weapons of any kind are allowed.

We discourage U.S. citizens from traveling in the dark.  Only travel if it is safe to do so and in compliance with local curfews.

Shelter, food, and water are likely unavailable at any of these departure points.

Onward travel arrangements from St. Lucia or Martinique will be the responsibility of the traveler.

If you wish to leave Dominica with your pet, you will need to use commercial or private transportation.

Very well done, USA. You care about your citizens and make things happen. Unlike the UK, they are sitting on their fat behinds in London and only making big speeches. Maybe they are just waiting for their citizens who are stranded in Dominica to make a ‘Brexit’ from there. Sometimes I’m ashamed to have a British passport. Get out there and get your citizens out of Dominica, it’s your duty to your citizens to do so.

I agree with Paul. The UK needs to do much better than this. There was no helpline broadcasted in England, no information on how they were going to get their citizens out. At the moment all their are doing is taken the names and possible location of British Nationals on the island and directing people to a gov.co.uk website that says nothing about a planned evacuation. UK should be so ashamed at how they treat their citizens.
