KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) — Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Profressor Hilary Beckles says the United States needs to respect the Caribbean and Haiti in particular.
Beckles made the statement as the fallout continues over United States President Donald Trump’s reported remarks about Haiti, El Salvador and African nations.
“The democratic, nation-building debt the American nation owes the Caribbean, and the Haitian nation in particular, that resides at its core, is not expected to be repaid but must be respected,” said Sir Hilary in a statement on the weekend.
Go back to sleep, you know trump is right these are sht-hol Countries, if you don’t think so go live in Haiti. Trump is doing more for blacks and Hispanics than any other president. Obama is the only president that did nothing for blacks. well he did put eight million people on food stamps, most were blacks, and he ensured man could marry man and woman marry woman, that’s all he did. Trump is making America Great Again!!!!!!!
The United States does not need to respect anyone !
Respect is earned and if you demand it you don’t deserve any !
I agree with Mr Beckles that the United States needs to respect the Caribbean and Haiti but we must take heed of these criticisms despite the nasty racism conveyed with them.
Criticism should make us yearn to improve. To show them that we are, if not better than them, but as good as them.
We cannot go on in an underdeveloped mindset by hiding our heads in the sand every time we are criticised.
Yes, the remarks were racist. Why does Trump want only people from Norway coming to the US? Why not China or Israel?
Let the Caribbean – and Haiti -prove Trump wrong
The CLINTONS AND DEMOCRATS ON A WHOLE ARE RACIST IN DEEDS…..Continue president Clinton would send the coast guard to apprehend the Haitians in their little boats and take them to GUantanamo bay in Cuba and later, back to Haiti. At the same time Clinton would send the coast guard to rescue Cubans and bring them to Miami.Later on he signed a bill it was named (wet-feet dry-feet) so that any Cuban escaping from the Castros if they land on any U.S land would received RED CARPET welcome. This law was made null and void just before Obama left office…Now the question is,was Clinton racist,?was it because most Haitians are black and poor?.
.Jimmy Cliff in one of his songs “Action speaks louder than words
Haitians do not want an apology from President Trump. Oh No!, All Haitians want is some of his hair.
Trump and the Republican party maybe racist in words, let’s compair him with Bill Clinton. When he was running for president the same Haitians were fleeing their home land because of poverty and civil war, they would take whatever they get and made little boats trying to reach Florida, many never reached their destination.Clinton told the Haitians “If I become president I will make sure you get a fear trial as asylum seekers.” He was elected in early November and before his inauguration inauguration January,he recorded this message to the Haitians.”No one who leaves Haiti by boat will be sent back”…I will continue
Why are we changing the subject? I thought this was about President Trump. Did President Clinton make a comment about this issue that I might have missed, so we are trying to show his hypocrisy?
Why do some people keep excusing Mr. Trump’s embarassing behaviour by pointing to other people? America is fast becoming the laughing stock of the world with this foul mouthed, empty-headed moron of a President. They allowed their hatred of Obama and Hillary Clinton to take precedence over their discomfort about Trump’s ability to manage the office of President.
Thing is, he displayed all these characteristics before he was voted in as President and people actually expected a different behaviour when he became President? Be warned, Dominica and all other countries. Examine the utterances and behaviour patterns of “aspiring ones” very carefully!
Leopards cannot change their spots so commonsense dictates that you must expect spots if you elevate the leopard.
It’s telling that Sir Ronald had to go back 200 years to find something positive to say about Haiti, conveniently leaving out the successive year’s of brutal dictatorships, poor governance, lack of education, rampant disease, high infant mortality rate, low life expectancy rate, and the rampant practice of voodoo yet instead of taking responsibility and addressing these issues, the likes of Sir Ronald would rather take offence to being labeled a shithole country! You don’t like your country being called a shithole, don’t leave it, take responsibility and do something positive to bring about a change but romanticizing about a 200 year old revolution which has brought zero positive change to the people of Haiti is to delude yourself and evade responsibility for the current predicament Haiti is currently confronted with…
Inform the uneducated .Progressive stance for the Caribbean and in particular for Haiti!
