Venezuela Supreme Court curbs opposition leader Juan Guaidó

Guaidó addressing supporters

Venezuela’s Supreme Court has banned opposition leader, Juan Guaidó, from leaving the country and frozen his bank accounts, according to CNN.

The move comes amid an escalating power struggle, after Mr Guaidó declared himself interim president last week.

He has been backed by the US and other countries. President Nicolás Maduro has major allies too, including Russia.

A group of North and South American countries has meanwhile opposed any outside military involvement.

Peru’s foreign minister Nestor Popolizio said the Lima Group – a 14-country body including Canada set up in 2017 to find a peaceful solution to the crisis in Venezuela – was opposed to “military intervention”.

US officials have stated that all options to resolve the crisis “are on the table”.

When Trump gave Assad a red line in Syria he thought Trump was joking because Russia was there protecting him. Then the bombs started falling. The mere fact Trump has recognized Guaido and his national security advisor -Bolton- has warned against any harm to Guaido should indicate to Mad-Maduro its over. Maduro can jump and scream all he wants the bottomline is he will be out by the hook or crook. If Trump does not get him out this will weaken him in the eyes of Skerro and Cuba thus making them feel invisible. Trump don’t like to be belittled.

If I was Maduro I would do like Supt. Mills and “pwen- couwee” while I can. Skewo better take note because Trump and Bolton watching him closely with that spying embassy he allowed China to guild in Dca. Time will surely tell.

Those who say the U.S.economy is doing well because of Obama.Obama is just an empty barrel just talk.During the campaign Trump promised to revive the steel industry and to bring back manufacturing jobs Obama said June 1.2016.
“These manufacturing jobs are gone,he cannot bring them back. How is he going to do it,is he going to wave a magic wand in the air?”
The man sealed his fate.So how can you give him the credit 4 something he said that would never happen.Trump decreased taxes corporations were paying from 35% to I think 21%,so that they can compete with steel from China. Also Americans can invest in The U.S
instead of going over seas and then bring them to sell here.Coal mining was Obama’s enemy, even Hillary Clinton said during the campaign “I will put coal miners out of work” Our beloved president gave them life.Companies are returning in the U.S.manufacturing jobs are growing 714% faster under Trump than Obama. Under Obama from 2009-2016,manufacturing jobs only 21000.

I do wish our gov’t would unilaterally stay out of this. Hasn’t Caricom stated Dca’s position as a block? I don’t understand why he had Bannis read a statement to the press. And by the way, why in the world does our country have a UN rep of low credentials/calibre when all else around them are represented at the UN by either college grad caliber or equivalent or someone of experience and/or knowledge? It’s the UN after all, why: lol:

Is it the U.S. border guards who traveled to the South American countries and stripes th e children from the parents? Or are the parents and others traveling hundreds or thousands of miles, breaking the U.S.laws by trying to enter illegally?
A guy who worked under the Obama administration had a photo spreading with the help of CNN and others showing children in cages, but never let it known this photo was taken 2014 during Obama’s reign. But as usual Trump who did it.
The children are given medical care, psychologist available to help them adjust,3 meals per day and snacks for them to have when they want. They are spending several hours in the classroom, all kind of sports to play, nice clothes and shoes and TV to watch.
Frenchy you mention tear gas, but not mention the young men stoning the border guards.
I am sympathetic towards these people, but we must at least be balance.Every country must know who comes in,and use the proper channels to enter.Ask the children do u want 2 go back

I will continue.

You made some good points, but communism and socialism is almost like the devil and his angels..In Dominica’s case, although I am not a supporter of UWP,DFP all the way.But why should a people give the DLP 4 terms in office,For what.? I will expand another time.

When you experiment socialism/communism and failed, you should do like my Roman catholic friends.Beat your chest and say.
“True my fault, true my fault grievous fault.”
But no,you will find others coming on DNO blaming neo-colonialism and what have you.If communism/socialism is or was so good and is working for the ordinary man, Why was it abandon to a certain extent by Russia and China?
The U.S. economy is florishing under a businessman,Donald Trump. No wonder millions are risking their lives just to be there.
In the 1980s Venezuela was the richest country in the Caribbean and South America. Now under socialism, basic things like sugar toilet paper is luxury

      J.J,
Please avoid simplistic behaviour and reasoning. A political philosophy be it capitalism, be it socialism, be it fascism or communism as an entity is powerless to impact the country as an entity. Who drives a political philosophy to the seeming economic success are its managers, the politicians. The political philosophy by itself is powerless. See The USA economy is thriving under Mr Trump but using an identical philosophy, Dominica is perishing. Whom do you praise, surely it can’t be the system. The results of leadership are so very different, therefore it seems basic to me, that the chief variable is the leadership. Now don’t come with more simplified arguments that other factors, the size of the population, the terrain of the country, the lack of industries etc. are responsible for Dominica’s demise. If you choose this approach, though I don’t know your age, I will simply take the liberty of asking you to compare the 70’s and 80’s Dominica to today’s Dominica and be…

The U.S. economy isn’t “thriving under… Trump.” They’re merely only now reaping the benefits of the Obama admin’s hard work and he happens to be at the helm. These things don’t just improve overnight.

That said, Russia and China abandoned their specific models of socialism which excluded most if not all forms of private enterprise which provides unique sorts of benefits to an economy. The modern models such as in Europe combine private enterprise with socialism so they can offset the negatives of each other – not the extreme cases all of you seem to jumping up and down over.

Venezuelans are suffering badly and this is undisputable. Having said that, no military intervention will automatically solve the deep seated problems of this country. Military intervention by the US will only cause greater instability. It will pit government supporters against opposition supporters in long standing war-like skirmishes. During the reign of Chávez, the US attempted to overthrow his government and install a puppet of the American government. It failed. America is longing to get their hands on Venezuela’s oil. That seems to be their prime motive. The US has cut back drastically on aid they provide to this region. Look at how they treat migrants from South and Central America. They strip these children from their parents and lock them in cages. Do you think that their motives to invade Venezuela are honorable? They invade then ignore the plight of the masses. Don’t be fooled.

Ibo France, this is so on point. America’s imperialism and expansionism is in action again. They bought Louisiana and Alaska. They annexed California and Texas. They grabbed Hawaii and other island in the Pacific, and Puerto Rico. Now they have their eyes on Venezuela. This is more about money and national security, and military control of the Caribbean Sea and by extension the Atlantic Ocean. Its all about their sphere of influence re their unilateral Monroe Doctrine.

Sound argument, JJ. This move is geopolitics at its worst. America still wants to dictate to sovereign countries. They want to invade Venezuela on the pretext that they care about the suffering people. When these same people show up at their borders, hungry, dehydrated, penniless, emotionally devastated, the Us border guards tear gassed them and throw them in prisons and cages.

So can American please annex dominica or just Atkinson  so i will not have to be like some many of the red socialist DLP cabal, who children and family are born in imperialism, reside their or attends school there. I would love to be like the “Evil Dr supremo” to have my kids born in imperialist america, and attend a private expensive school in new york, or like chavez daughter who owns the expensive house in florida, try convincing her to leave imperialist return to caracas to help maduro fight for the revolution her father started.

I have said before its all about money by the controllers. These lobbyist have supreme power over the country. Eg, with all the gun violence going on in the USA gun rights want to dilute the little gun safety measures in place by lobbying congress to remove them, now in some states the want people to be able to come to church with guns. In some states where gambling is banned the want to change the law to allow casinos In some states where alcohol are not sold on a Sunday they want to change the law. In small “dry” counties where alcohol is banned, they want the law changed. But nothing is said about the increase in gun violence.
The Leader of the opposition of Venezuela declared himself President , that is not dictatorial because Trump recognize him. I wonder . I wonder how many are in Trump and the Controllers pockets

The PM of Dominica participated in a statement issued on this by the Heads of CARICOM indicating their stance against interference in other countries internal affairs. CARICOM countries have ties with both USA and Venezuela that goes beyond traditional. Because of their position they have to be very protective. They do not want to be harmed in cross fire or backlash. They have been there before vis a vis Cuba and Grenada with USA action.
The USA and others could easily take this matter to the UN Security Council and seek a peaceful solution. Look at Trump flattering approach to Putin and North Korea, traditional US enemies, but they insist on a Vietnam, Iraq , Libya ,Afghanistan war type approach or a civil war. At the end only Venezuelan people will suffer and Big Oil and Big Guns will be richer. In all USA wars of attrition they never mention the death toll and human sufferings of civilians, no numbers ever.
Don’t forget the roll played by the right wing media.

Dominica Court would do the same thing, even worse to save Skerrit. But the Supreme Court will soon know whose assets they blocking because Maduro alone will not go down just as Skerrit will take some of his senior defenders with him

The supreme court is in Maduro’s pocket just like the Magistrates are in Skerrit’s pocket. This is no longer about the people who are suffering, it’s what you can get from the ruling party.

Venezuela’s oil an unmentioned fuel to foment the impending international involvement! Those colonial masters will use every guise available to get an opportunity to ravage Venezuela’s oil. This desire has always been there but for the strong leadership of the forerunners in the region like Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez, this would have already been accomplished.

Our Caribbean leaders must now show their mettle and resist this attempt at neocolonialisation by these architects of economic slavery.

The mighty Sparrow long described these vultures and warned us that if we are brave enough to open our mouths, we will be ostracised, so be prepared for the fall out.

For a country to be corrupt, the court system has to be fetidly corrupt to give leverage to the corruption ..Maduros has the Supreme court in his pockets..
Do you know of an OECS country where the court system is just to harrass and jail opposition members like Venezuela?
    Wake up good people.
All our vital institutions of state are broken . Let’s restore democracy by discarding lazy Skerrit at the next polls.
