Today, Dominicans are fortunate that they get the weather forecast. If I recall, in those previous years, all we heard was, a hurricane is on its way and whether we would get the eye of the storm, less or the full blast.
Looking back on those days I wonder if we heard anything at all. All or most D/cans had then was a radio. The rain fell, the wind blew, the lightning flashed, the thunder rolled and the storm raged on, sometimes into a hurricane with huge sea waves. After school, some of us would leave home to specifically watch the high waves. This was something to see. Do D/cans do this today?
When I was a child, D/ca did experience the eye of a hurricane. We did not have TV and Internet and did not know the extent of damage throughout the island.
Today, the weather forecast is improved immensely. This gives D/cans time to prepare. This is progress of one kind.
Fellow Dominican residents, as in everything, be thankful and appreciative.
Thanks for the info, hope the people heed the warning.
