The storm over the Eastern Caribbean on Friday morning

The general public is asked to note that the Tropical Storm warning for Dominica has been DISCONTINUED.

Tropical Storm Ernesto is now located 140 miles south west of Dominica and moving to the west.

At 11am, the center of Tropical Storm Ernesto was located near Latitude 13.7North Longitude 62.3West moving towards the west near 21mph.

This general motion is expected to continue during the next couple of days. On the forecast track, Ernesto will be moving across the Eastern and Central Caribbean Sea during the next 48 hours.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50mph with higher gusts.

Residents are asked to note that although the warnings have been discontinued, rain bands in the system over and close to Dominica will continue to produce moderate showers and gusty winds.

Residents should move around with caution and look out for possible rock falls.

Also, interests on the west coast should take precaution as the system could generate high sea swells on entering the Caribbean Sea.

Why is it our weather reports always wrong? Is it because there are no satellites focus on Dominica to get a true picture of our island…
They have discontinued the warning but presently parts of the island have HIGH WINDS AND HEAVY RAIN.

We need to serious look at putting things in place to get our weather right across the island.
    This could cost lives…

The warning can be discontinued since the storm is moving away from us. A tropical storm warning simply means that tropical storm conditions are expected. Right now, we are not experiencing tropical storm conditions. We are feeling the effect of the outer bands form the storm which brings heavy rain and gusts of wind; but not torrential rains and sustained gusts of wind which is what tropical storms bring.

Because weather is very unpredictable. Honestly, predicting *any* weather at all is difficult, since there is a great deal of uncertainty unavoidably involved.

idiot, tropical storm force winds extend out to 110 miles from the center…the center is now 140 miles away from Dominica – do the maths. however, as rightly indicated, adverse conditions will continue

one of them good days when they say ‘hurricane warning’ or ‘tropical storm warning’ and nobody advises us to stay home – all u will see. a ‘Watch’ means to go work and to go buy stuff for home, a ‘Warning’ means stay indoors. what is wrong with my country. try safety first over everthing else. our life matters!!!

    • Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 6 Thumb down 4 Really? August 3, 2012

My fren, you wrong, wi. The difference between a ‘watch’ and a ‘warning’ was that hurricane conditions in the ‘warning’ are expected in 24 hours while in the ‘watch’ the conditions are expected in about 36 hours! Boy all you does just make fings up, eh!

If you had a secretary you would well put pressure on her to be at work, even if she had to cross river and ocean to get there. Most managers and supervisors don’t care about workers, all they concern about is that the work get down

DNO, Admin, Did your office question the Met Office of ODM regarding the statement that the storm, which was located some 110 miles SOUTH of Dominica at 5:00 a.m. today, is expected to nove across the NORTHERN Windward Islands “in the next few hours”. Should that have been SOUTHERN Windward Islands, unless if Ernesto makes a full circle after it gets over the Caribbean Sea, or heads north and then goes thru the northen Windwards (which includes Guadeloupe and Dominica). Heard that on the radio as well, and may have been a slip of the pen or the tongue.

  26. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0 Jackie Brown August 3, 2012

Lets hope that Ernesto will by-pass Dominica. On the other hand Dominica is able to stand up to whatever comes it way. All will be well.

God is in control at all times, and he sees and knows that the region is unable to go through this. We have barely recovered from all these depressions, storms, hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanoes both man-made and natural. He will deliver us from these hazards; faith and pray at all times. God Help us!!
