The issue of global warming and climate change continues to pose a threat to the Dominican society.
That’s according to Keynote Speaker at the 13th Biennial Conference of the Dominica Association of Teachers (DAT), Meteorological Officer, Farrah Rocque- Carriere .
The conference was held at the St Alphonsus Parish Hall in Goodwill on Wednesday.
According to her, climate change and global warming have multidimensional impacts and affects individuals in the communities and schools.
She revealed statistics which show that climate change is a reality.
“At the Canefield Station, 2014 and 2015 were two consecutive years of below average rainfall,” she said. “At the Douglas-Charles 2015 was the driest year on record for the period 1974- 2015. In 2015 Canefield average temperature was 0.4 degrees Celsius above the 30-year mean. For Douglas-Charles it was 0.3 degrees Celsius above the 30-year mean.” Canefield daily maximum temperature last year was 35.5 degrees Celsius and that occurred on October 4th and 5th.
She said Canefield daily maximum temperature last year was 35.5 degrees Celsius and that occurred on October 4th and 5th.
She stated further that global warming isn’t a prediction anymore but is actually happening.
“Being the exceptionally vulnerable island, the present situation demands from us a two-pronged approach, we must both mitigate and adapt if we have to combat global warming and its effects, but we must first inform ourselves,” she explained.
She encouraged the public to reduce, reuse and recycle in order to combat global warming and climate change.
Minister of Education, Petter Saint said global warming is an issue pertinent to all Dominicans, “demonstrated in no uncertain terms by the passage of Tropical Storm Erika last August.”
He stated that the extensive damage caused during the storm was indeed a wake-up call.
“My hope is that the discussion will start with you here today, but it will filter down to the students who must be educated about the threats they face as they look to an increasingly, uncertain and unpredictable future,” he noted.
Funny no mention about the widespread practice by the USA-led international bandits for ‘geo-engineering’/ chemtrails for climate modification and then to blame the results on us. Read the US Senate Report on what man-made criminal geo-engineering is doing to the USA and the earth (and who’s really behind it): – http://beforeitsnews.com/alternative/2015/10/conspiracy-theorists-are-vindicated-u-s-senate-reports-chemtrails-are-real-and-are-killing-us-3234688.html
Our politician slaves and their minions ignore all this and tell us that it is us (the little guys) who are the cause of bogus ‘climate change’ (previously ‘global warming’ The next thing is to tell is that as we are ‘warming/ changing the ‘planet’s climate’, there are too much of us on earth and first:-
1) we have to eat/consume less
2) reduce our numbers (Zika, the hoax, will certainly help them with this)
3) if we don’t reduce our numbers voluntarily, guess what, they will help us out!!

Climate change affects the entire world. What can the government do about it? What can anyone do about it? Mother Nature changes her pattern from time to time and is also unpredictable.
I would not worry about climate change. As time goes on, whatever befalls the earth will and when we least expect it.
What should be done and/or continue to be done is to monitor hurricanes, storms and earthquakes so that, if at all possible nationals could try to protect and safeguard themselves.
My humble suggestions. Invest in at least three weather monitoring instruments that can take real time readings of temperature, humidity, Dew point atmospheric pressure etc, place them strategically in the heights so they can send back readings remotely to either Canfield or marigot. The past few flash floods seem to catch everyone off gaurd and warning of flash floods were after the fact. It will give an idea for favorability for heavy rains in mountains. Weather conditions at only Marigot or Canfield is frankly not enough since it does not help one bit with predictions of flooding and potential for landslides. Part of being prepared is collection of info where it matters most.
Hellooo, climate change is a threat to the Whole World and yes, it’s happening as we speak.
