Dominicans advised to monitor progress of Hurricane Irma

The Dominica Meteorological Service is warning interests in Dominica to monitor the progress of Irma, which was upgraded to a hurricane at 11:00 am on Thursday.

The system is located over the eastern Atlantic about 1,825 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and moving west north west near 10mph with maximum sustained winds near 100 mph.

The center of the system is projected to move just northeast of the area by Tuesday into Wednesday of next week.

Interests in Dominica are advised to monitor the progress of this system and to make all the necessary preparations as feeder bands from Irma and rough seas could affect the island, the Dominica Meteorological Service said.

Meantime, a high-pressure system has established itself across the area. However, low-level clouds moving westward could result in occasional cloudiness and a few showers across parts of the island chain during the next 12 hours.

A westward moving tropical wave located just east of the Lesser Antilles is expected to approach the area by tomorrow, Friday.

This is very serious. Everyone make sure you are not by a river or by a mountain or on a mountain that can slide, a river that can flood or the sea that can be over powering. get out well before the hurricane hits. Fin safe shelter. This could if it comes at a category 4 hurricane cut off many parts of Dominica. Hurricane David lasted one and a half hours and look at the damage caused. This will be catastrophic for all of Dominica if we get a hurricane 4 Irma. Do not be negligent. Buy anything you need now. Find the best shelter you can. Be safe at any cost. https://www.wunderground.com/cat6/irma-intensifying-eastern-atlantic-big-long-range-questions?__prclt=czgeaQLt

These storms are forming seemingly in clusters. Irma looks ferocious. I hope it disappears over open waters and leave us alone.
