Flood Watch issued for Dominica

flood watchIssued at 3:00 p.m – Monday, 14th September, 2015

Analysis of satellite and radar imagery suggests that the unsettled conditions associated with a passing tropical wave, which has been affecting Dominica during the day, will continue to affect the island during the night and into the first half of tomorrow.

As a consequence, cloudy to overcast skies along with some pockets of moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to spread across the island. Rainfall accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible with isolated higher amounts.

Due to the already saturated nature of the earth, any additional rainfall is likely to result in further flooding and landslides.

Thus, a Flood Watch has been issued until 12:00 noon tomorrow, Tuesday, 15th September, 2015.

This watch may be further extended should conditions become necessary.

A Flood Watch means that conditions are favourable and there exist the possibility of flooding during the watch period.

Remember Salisbury, Remember the expired tear gas, the bullets and mistreatment of a people simply asking for a road to their livelihood for 15 plus years. Remember the voice and screams of the man (Matt in the morning) bawling that Skerro send police to kill them and his mother in law was suffocating from tear gas? The God that I serve does not sleep. Sadly we are all paying for the ruthless ways of those who think power belongs to them only. Remember, when the rain falls, it dont fall on one man’ house.

God does not like competition and so all the so called men of the cloth who worshiped the said child king and compared others to Judas has DEFINITELY contributed to this natural calamity. My god and the god of Abraham is purging this land by reminding us all that he is master of the universe, not a man from Vielle Case. Those who allow the child king to destroy others take note, you are part of the curse.

May god have mercy on us the innocents.

Again! What did we do? Are we being affected by a curse? It’s a good thing we did not allow Tommy Lee Sparta to perform in Dominica, because we would say he brought the curse . God sure works in mysterious ways!

I know we had USA gospel artist Tarsha Cobbs to perform in Grandfond during the last election, and when she sang her song “Break every curse,” we could literally feel those curse falling. So she broke the curse. Why we still troubled by the curse?
Maybe it’s time for us to do like Israel when they were constantly attacked and defeated. Not even prayer could save them? They had to do something else Joshua 7:10-26. In verse 11, God said this : for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen. Maybe we might have an accursed thing to deal with. Achan was the cause of the curse and after he was stoned to death, the curse stayed. Maybe we have an accursed thing at the top and unless we remove it (NOT kill like in the case of Achan) the curse will stay.

would you say Japan, Utah, California are curse too.

      • Yes I
        September 16, 2015

Japan’s flooded area happens to be below see level and are still suffering from fall out of the tsunami, Cali. and Utah are parched from drought conditions and so the soil is unable to absorb the rainfall.

Really – are you insane. A curse? How about we failed to take care of the environment and now the environment is lashing back. When this is over start a recycling program – take care of the land that you love so much and stop this curse/religion nonsense.

I am so very surprised that nobody is really watching the weather and that there is a load of bad weather still coming! 12.00 noon tomorrow! Then catch your breath for what maybe 20 hours and look what is coming behind. All Dominicans need to move to safe places at this time. There is more rain on the way. Please just do the right thing and be safe. Your lives are more important than your belongings. God keep us safe. Amen

How many among us Dominicans believe that global warming and the resultant devastating effects relative to climate change will continue to be a major threat to our livelihoods?

Because we are still in the hurricane season and given the magnitude of the destruction due to Erika’s passage, the need for engaging foreign countries, corps of engineers, to clear debris, clean communities, dread rivers, must be urgent.

Neither Gov’t, nor private sector have the equipment, personnel to quickly do the job. Remember, all river beds have been raised to such levels that it is frightening. How much heavy equipment Dominica have? Many farmers just cannot access their farms. Many bridges have collapsed. Slides plenty.

Imagine, Petro Caribe facility is now in the middle of the Belfast river. On Friday past, the Belfast area was again flooded. Imagine the fuel tanks being ruptured, massive oil spill in Mahaut, Massacre plus other villages. More environmental disaster

Only idiots build oil storage tanks in a river bed. Who did the Impact Assessment Survey prior to constructing theses tank? Right now we have some serious concerns to address reference the corrosion of the underside of those tanks, the stresses are are being subjected to and their overall stability. We cannot afford to have a spill from these tanks.

We need to tap into the Dominican resources in these areas to help us through. Some of them are in Texas, USA and even working globally in this capacity and I am certain they can help before its too late. I will keep praying for my country and hope common sense will prevail.
